Heavy Duty '64 ('65) Bug

Post by Bugsnstuff »

Here's my my latest project. Been putzin with it for 3+ years. Fabed new floor and rockers. Swapped in Type II running gear and trans. Heavy duty rear bumper mount/ reciever with 3/16 inch skid plate under engine.
In November I decided to mount my elect/hydro snow plow from my 3/4 ton Chevy (long gone) to the Bug. The plow frame is bolted to the front beem and rear torsion housing. Some 600 lbs of steel is hanging off the reciever in back for traction. Let it snow.
My daughter named it Ghost after we took it to Timber Ridge Ranch in Iowa two years ago over 4th of July. While out trail riding at nite the exterior and dash lites started to flash at random, brake lites, back up lites, blinkers and head lites even seemed to be green so we were told. It seemed to be possesed. Our friends thought we were messing around but it turned out to a couple loose wires, fuse box and a self destructing generator. Daughter named it Ghost.
Here. a couple of pics and a link to more at far right at bottom. A couple of vids too.
I like shoveling snow now,

Dubai,

Here's a person on this forum who made a Schwimmwagen, slightly more complicated than a Type 89. His metalworking skills are legendary - read his build thread and decide if you want to try that.

There are also kubelkits that will take a lot of the work out of making a kubelwagen replica, but they're fairly expensive.

The suspension front and rear is from a '68 Westfalia, mounted just a little lower on the chassis than would be stock. Plenty of ground clearance.

Wow did you need to fabricate anything to fit or does it bolt straight on. Got any build picture of this set up?

Thanks

I did a bit pf fabrication to get the beam to bolt on like stock but about an inch lower on the chassis. Hopefully this link to my photobucket works. http://s1014.photobucket.com/albums/af2 ... Ghost/
