OK Dave I have a biggie for you. Converting a 914 tranny, Do you know of any one who sell the nose cone and shifting rod? I think I still have someone who will do the ring and pinion for me (It'll cost me a twelve pack I'm sure). But after I get it flipped is where the mounting and shifting issues start. I know of BUGAT5SPEED. Any body else?Dave_Darling wrote:The 915 uses a different style input shaft than the 901 (and 914) transmissions do. It will not bolt right up, not without some "adaptor" parts. I believe that Kennedy Engineering sells the correct flywheel and clutch to mate a 915 with a Type IV (or 914) engine.

Sorry, I don't know who can sell you the parts you need for less than a whole big bunch'a money. (And I'm not sure the parts are available new, anyway!) Your best bet is to find a 901 gearbox from a 911 up through 1969, or if you want to try the pull-style clutch you can use the 70-71 gearbox. Or use any of the above as parts donors for your 914 box, though that seems a bit odd when they already turn the correct direction....

Well, I guess I did persuade them, but they wanted $ 725,-- just for the annular hydraulic actuator and bearing...Wally wrote: I WILL try to persuade WEVO to sell me the annular hydraulic trow-out bearing thingy seperate![]()

Back to the drawing board so to speak.

I did a very quick and dirty conversion once in a squareback and I had no starter that reached. (I have to edit, it was a self supporting starter without the outer bearing. SR17Xmaybe it is called?)
So I put it up in the lathe and took off some 5 maybe 10 mm.
I have no idea but that worked.
Now I warn you, It was 20 plus years ago and I was not worried about if it weakened the starter.
Apart from that I also have a chromemmoly billet flywheel for Porsche clutch and TIV bolt pattern to the flywheel. Anyone need it?
It ran in my -67 bug watercooled TIV with supercharger and a 4 speed 915 gearbox.
It had the original Porsche hydraulic pull slave.
I used both a 6 puck Porsche original race disc and later a much more kinder organic and springed disc.
Both worked but the 6 puck was very difficult with that power and driving on the streets.
Tire squeel without asking for it was not appreciated by neither me nor the police, as I experienced once. Then I changed disc.

What did you make up for clutch actuation?
Thanks,
Walter

OOOps, maybe I am on deep water.
The car had the 4 speed 915 installed when I bought it.
It had Volvo hanging pedals with hydraulic master.
Might have been a adapted Volvo slave too or from a newer 911.
No idea to be honest but the slave I took for granted was original. It was located straight under the gearbox and it definately had the release bearing located fixed on the clutch and pulling.
The car can be seen in my blogspot, link below and if time permits, I will also update the blog with interior pictures on the pedals and engine. Unfortunately no picture on the 915.
