This has got to be one of the best threads I've read, and I'm only halfway through reading it.

Any hints you want to share on a good medium performance build for a 1200? I've got a stock rebuilt 1200 sitting on my bench, and I managed to get my hands on a set of 1300DP heads. Other than that, it's a clean slate.

I love all the changes you made - but I'm a bit overwhelmed on where to even get started! I don't think I want to go as far as turbo charging, but I do love the idea of fuel injection.

Is there a particular book I need to pick up? Or "required reading" on this forum or others?

I was thinking of trying to base my build off of yours, but just "taking it down a notch" - is that something that would work?

Thanks! Thats nice to hear.
Taking it down a notch is very much doable and probably a good idea if your not chasing records :-)
The whole key to our 1200 tuning really are the 1300 dual port heads we take from our european 1300 44hp engines. They were not delivered in the US iirc, so it depends where you're from if that is an easy upgrade or not.
The next step is deffinately upping CR as much as you can. 3mm at least fly cutting the 1300 DP heads (they have more head cc then single port stcok 1200 heads) with stock-ish cams and even more (if possible) with aftermarket cams.
Then carbs above the head, single or even better double, is much like regular tuning. Keep it all small, exhaust too, smaller then you feel comfortable with, but its a 1200 cc not a 1600-2000 ltr! so you need to adress your thinking to this small displacement.

And voila: you probably now have the original hp a 1600 had stock! :-)

Removed the rear lid and test fitted the intercooler (it will be tilted more, but you would hardly see it then) 8)
I had this idea about 6 years ago already and made the room. Finally get to use it.

Blank at the T removed and connected the turbo oil feed hose (love these connections, so easy to fit and remove)

Besides the intercooler (which is hampered due to inboard), there will also be waterinjection with dual nozzles. Just found the T piece for it again in the old box

Welded one of the old Tial MVR 38mm WG's (removed from the twin scroll type 4) with a new V-band flange to the 1200's downpipe.

hehe! Well, its a challenge (read dyno queen) engine, so maybe if the target isn't met and its still in one piece, who knows? ;-)

Wally, did you flip your package tray around to make the engine compartment bigger?
