Why STF?-Why are you here????

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Why STF?-Why are you here????

I am curios to why most of you come to Shop Talk Forums-The Off-Road Forum for your information and advice. I know there are several other forums out there such as The Samba, Race Dezert, Desert Rangers and so on (which I am a member of as well) but why here?

I will tell you why I am here.

1. The Build pages here are top notch. I see builds on here from the “Budget Baja” to the “Ultimate Race Car” I have taken all of that to build my sons car.

2. You guys welcomed me in when I first signed up 3 years ago and made me feel welcome. No matter what kind of knowledge I had and continue to do that with new members.

3. The expert advice and knowledge y’all have given me. Good or bad you are not afraid to share.

4. We don’t criticize each other on their builds or given advice like I have seen on other forums.

5. I have made several lifelong friends here and hopefully more to come.

That’s my 5 reasons why I am here and continue to stay here. Now what are yours? And to the Moderators…. Tell us why you are Mods here.

Hope to see most of you at the Mint this year.

Lets Go Racing.

Mods…Feel free to make this a Sticky if you like.

the crowd here is big enough that we ahve a bit of everything, all terrains on all budgets, but it's small enough it doesn't feel anonymous, which I think is abig part of why we are so gorram civil here compared to TOS as well as the interent in general. Maybe we got really lucky with the crowd, but I think it's jut the right size. even when i am only on here from tiem to time I feel i know who the regulars are.

oh and I know someone will always ask a dumber question than m,e or catch that little something i missed and point it out wihtout (too much ) judgment and in good humor.

mods barely exist, we could practically function without em. in the last year how many threads have been locker or posts deleted?

oh and the free coffee in the morning is always nice, but the donuts are always a bit stale

A couple of reasons. When I posted some ideas of how I wanted to paint my car, at TOS all I got was people telling me that it wouldn't sell for as much, while here I got people saying how much they liked it.

When I posted my plans for my baja, TOS said it couldn't be done, while here I got encouragement.

My evil twin is here.

You guys are all as crazy as I am.

I've never heard any harsh words here.

There are more reasons, I'm sure, I'll think of some later.

Leather invited me over from another forum which now has pretty much died from the owner having abandoned it.

A lot of good natured fun at no one’s expense,

A lot of information on different ways of attacking problems as there is usually more than one good way to do things,

You make a dumb statement and not much is said critically and people do admit mistakes rather than flip or minimize them,

If there is a problem it is a team atmosphere and everyone joins in in a helpful way.

People from all over the world come here and participate so you a wide variety of information and of ways to do things,

Religion and politics are pretty much kept out of the business of toys

People cross forums if they can help someone.

Some of the things I like about STF.

The relaxed environment, I enjoy reading build threads and about every one else’s projects and reading about all the knowledge that is here and not just about VW's or Baja's there is always something to learn and even the occasional off topic thread that is fun to share on and doesn’t get deleted immediately. there is always variety of threads and projects going on not what tires work and what oil to use  (though once in a while it comes up in pertinent scenarios.

I'm here for the higher class of imaginary friends.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

This is great stuff guys.
Lee, this is exactly what I think every one is here for. They just can't describe it the words like you do.

Keep it coming.

I am surprised Herbie hasn't posted yet.

All of the above is true.

I especially like that creativity is encouraged instead of "how it should be done", I work in a hospital and more often than not off-the-wall ideas are highly discouraged.

I live in a house full of girls, most of which think my garage time is futile. I certainly can't bounce ideas off them because I get answers like "That'd be ugly." "What's the point." "Isn't it good enough already?" Whenever I talk about my baja projects at home I get interrupted with the latest high shool drama. Not too much drama on here.

Sometimes I think I'm going nuts, and then I read about your guy's projects, ideas, and adventures and feel completely normal. 8)

Because I found Hedrocks car and then Skids car while searching the web for convertible bajas. :D

That is how I got here....And was welcomed in like I had been here forever. That is why I have stayed.

Not having the racing background.....not sure I fit as well on some of the other places. Hell I only signed up for Race-dez because Herbie was trying to win a RC car or something.

Only been to the Samba to look at cars that were started over there and have made there way over here. Still not a member there.
It is not Mickey Moused.....It's Desert Engineered!
