Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
If you are running one of those minipcs, they can run linux, either Android ...OR standard Linux.
Support of the usual USB serial devices under a std linux kernel is a given, so why run android?
Slap a USB touchscreen on that DVD player monitor, plug it all into a powered hub, done.
(many steps omitted to not make it sound like work )
Given what those mini-pcs cost and their inherent hackability, i may join you.
There are some nice touchscreen-optimised GUIs for Linux, Plasma Active 3, or the Ubuntu setup makes sense on a tablet, etc.
Even android is likely to work with debian in a chroot, but ...why when you can run on bare metal?
As to Android, ShadowDash is getting there but is a work in progress.
Some of the other apps are further along in places, but SD has the TS author writing it.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
Haven't been able to get the wireless to work with Ubuntu on the Android stick computer, and can't get the USB to work with the Android software on the same device. It's always something. I'm no where near qualified to make it work either. So, I have to wait for someone that understands such things to post a tutorial somewhere, or adapt the TS software to an Android stick computer. I chose the Android stick computer because it's cheap. It would AWESOME if this whole process was available in a simple, plug and play, package.
Shadowdash looks like it is designed as a display rather than a tool for tuning. I believe that the reason for not tuning with it is because the Bluetooth dealio doesn't communicate fast enough.
There is a place on the EFIAnalytics site where you can vote for the next "upgrade" for the software. I wish there was a box for "making TS with VEAL work on an affordable, available, computer, with a modern OS". I'd create a few new email addresses so I could vote for that option several times a day.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
I had originally looked at the Pi when I found the Android stick, but the Pi is a 3 year old design. No that it wouldn't work, but I can get Ubuntu to run on the Android stick, just not with the wireless.
If the Pi would connect to my wireless and to TS via USB with a USB to Serial adapter, I might just get one. I just don't think that the Raspberry Pi is "plug and play" enough for me. They are notoriously out of stock too.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
You need to try putting {your choice of Linux distribution that supports armhf} on it.
It's not as easy as installing Linux on a PC, but you really should consider doing that first.
The tools to load Linux on the minipc are all present or a simple pull from the distro to install.
I'm running Mageia FWIW. Have since it came out, and Mandriva for many years before.
(Magieia was started by most of the folks originally working on Mandriva, it's a fork)
IIRC Mageia is working on Arm now.

Are you referring to installing a version of Linux on the Raspberry Pi, or the Android stick computer?Piledriver wrote:You need to try putting {your choice of Linux distribution that supports armhf} on it.
I installed Ubuntu on my netbook at home after WinXP crashed. Love it! The friend of mine that works on my MS for me, bought an Android stick PC. He has Ubuntu working on it, except for the WIFI. If he runs it off of the included Android software, it has WIFI, but no USB connection, so it can't connect to MS. Personally, I'd like to run it off of Ubuntu and be able to run TS. I thought Ubuntu is ARM compatible.
I'll look into Mageia as I've never heard of it until now.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
You should be able to plug the stick (with linux loaded) into a (powered) USB hub and plug in a $10 USB WIFI external.
Same for most USB serial adapters.
TS should be No Problem.
Ubuntu is probably more mature on armhf, debian even moreso as Ubuntu is based on it.
I simply like the system management tools on Mageia/Mandriva, as they exist.

Hadn't considered using a USB /WIFI thingy. We were trying to get the built in WIFI working, without success. Looks like I need to break out the checkbook again.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
While contemplating which Android mini PC to buy, I came across this little snippet:
https://www.miniand.com/products/MK802% ... 0Mini%20PC
How cool would it be to start logging with TS, by starting it with my Android cel phone?

If you are buying things, please post pictures and comments about them. If you are buying thongs, please don't.
I will try to remember to post my results with the Android Tablet I expect to arrive in the next few days.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
I ended up buying an Thinkpad X200 convertible tablet and sticking Win8 on it, along with Linux.
It can run Androidx86 as well, although with 4G of ram I may be able to run Android apps in a task.

Re: Using a Tablet with TunerStudio for MS2
Linux is the development enviroment for Android.
(as Android is basically just another Linux distribution)
Supposedly running android apps is doable, have not tried (yet).
Worst case, one can run android-x86 in a VM, or run android-x86 on bare metal if your hardware is supported.
(my project for today to see if that is the case)
Properly written Android apps should run regardless of the CPU flavor.
OTOH TS works just fine with the pen, and if all else fails I flip out the full keyboard.
