Nice build! Who did your head work? What size valves are you running? Doh! See pretty picture, type too fast, read too slow. I like the cylinder/head step notch. What are the dimensions of the notch? I am interested in what head you started with.

Very nice. Interesting.
Do you perhaps have a picture of other side of heads... showing the plug positions/angles.

What deck height do you plan to be running?

Insulating/ceramic coating the exhaust port is a good idea.
An engine designer once claimed that up to half of the heat that enters the cooling system does so via the exhaust port. He mentioned high exh gas speed and resulting turbulence in that area to be the cause. This was probably referring to a watercooled application, but we get the idea...

thank you, the heads are some vintage RAT/HAM heads I picked up off ebay couple years ago , their
1.8 AMC castings , I kinda reconditioned them ,I had Len at HAM recut the seats on his serdi machine ,
I replaced the exaust valves, I also bac-cut them, I measured and shimmed the springs, ect.ect., The
rocker arm geometry was off, I found some deep pocket lash-caps & added .060 shim inside to extend
the valves out farther,it was easier then trying to mill the rocker pads down :) , here's an old sketch ,
sorry I don't remember the diameters OTOH (in my notebook somwhere) , I do remember I used
a 1/8 mill on the outside .060 deep pocket if that helps , cheers Bill D.

Thank you, the deck is .032 machined in the head (sketch in above post), here's a few pic's , hope this helps , cheers Bill D.

Inspirational. It looks like the bottom spark plugs will be accessible with the pushrod tubes and exhaust in place. This was a concern of mine.

hey Steve, I thought the same thing, until I got it all assembled :( , #2 & #3 I'm gonna have to pull the
pushrod tube halfway out to change plugs , but hey I only changed plugs about once a year in the past,
I'm thinking that maybe I can make a custom plug socket , but I haven't got to that point yet (made time)
it's lower on the list  , cheers Bill D.

WhOOO! That's something right there.
Thanks for sharing.

Couple o' questions...
What's the drilled/billet bracket thingie bolted to the front of the case?
download/file.php?id=14280

Why did the crank get chucked up in a lathe?

Man, it's sweet to see a motor done 'all the way' like that.
Makes me feel less crazy!
Speedier than a Fasting Bullet!

Hello Clatter, the crank in the lathe is for polishing purposes (budget build) I tried to do as much of the work
myself or with a little help from co-workers :) , the billet plate bracket is something I designed years ago
for the compressor for AC system (to get the wife to ride in the car :D , it helped) , here a couple of
old pic's, thank you cheers Bill D.
