what are you looking for?
I have saved a lot of pictures and if it is the rebuilt Nicasils, I might have them somewhere.
Hi Frallan, just reference at the moment. I've always had this thread at the back of my mind all these years and I've finally picked up a set of 964/100mm pistons and barrels cheap on ebay.
My main question at the moment is the depth of the sealing surface at the top of the barrels is very shallow. I guess it just gets the recess machined a bit deeper down into the barrel. Any pics you might have will be useful.
I remember the pic of the top of the piston being machined down but that's about it.

Thanks.
Actually, that IS about that... just do it and keep the sealing surface at the original 6,5mm wall thickness, which means about cutting into the heads about the same opening as for 103 barrels. That will enhance heat transfer from the heads to the barrels

My only reflection is that EMW cylinders are not that bad.....do not say ever I said that ...you know why? But I know my previous engine is giving some impressive performance as to cooling and longevity, so far by running and running on circle track events and sometimes under very special demanding circumstances.
Give Jorge a call at EMW and he could probably give you some sand Off Road stories too to confirm this.
Mayeb they have hidden problems but nothing I have seen yet. I am on to my second set.
Are you talking about the new affordable aluminum cylinders at EMW has?
I have a high dollar 103mm 6 studs build I'm piecing together (for 12 years now!). I have EMW 103s Iron liners from 2001 with JEs now. I'm wondering about taking my existing 103mm JEs and fitting them to the EMW aluminum 103s. What is involved?
DO you remember the piston wall clearance you used on those 103s Steve?

I am going to copy you Don.
I would go by the basic "clearance per inch" spec that JE supplies, and maybe add a little slop since they will run much hotter than a 327 chevy.
JE specs out to .003" with up to .003" EXTRA for HI Turbo usage.....
I told Jorge to hone to .006".
It's gonna slap like no tomorrow till she warms up!

I ran a set of 105.7mm BME Nascar car pistons @ the manufacturer recommened .010" clearance in EMW cast iron cyl's, and a year later when I tore the motor apart, I couldn't believe how beautiful the pistons looked. The rings were .043", .043" & 3mm oil. And they had a fairly short compression height and was probally why I didn't hear them when the motor was cold.
I think the pistons Jorge sells have 1.180" Compression Height.
It seems he doesn't read my emails very well, I thought I spec'd everything in my request,
cause I didn't see 22mm pins listed on the website!

Happen to recall the final compression height on those modded 964 slugs?
