Exhaust manifold and alternator bracket

Post by flat_iv »

I thought I would post a few pics of the alternator bracket that I fabricated and exhaust header that I welded. I think the welds look pretty good for my first time welding. I moved the alternator to the other side so I could still run the air conditioning. I still have to weld up a few holes in the intake manifold and relocate the vacuum line to the backside of the intake manifold. With the exhaust maniflod bolted up I have approx. 8" ground clearance. I plan on running a magnaflow or borla muffler. I was going to weld in the muffler right after the Y adapter then run the exhaust out the stock locations. The header originaly came from a 1.8 Suby.

Thanks,
Richard

Richard, do you have drawings (demensions) for mounting your alternator on the left side. Also, when you flipped your intake, how did you approach the wiring and fuel lines that are attached to it?

In another version you have the alt on the right. Can you flip it to the left and leave the coolant manifold in place or does that now have to be flipped as well.

I ask because I am in the planning stages of a 72 squareback w/ a 2.2 I am not sure at this point if I can get it under the engine cover plate. That is the goal, as long as it doesnt require extensive mods to the intakes (coolant and intake)

Thanks Dave

Sorry for the very late reply.

I do have a few drawing of the bracket that I fabricated that I could send you.
Flipping the intake did require extending a few wires and the fuel lines just bolted back up with no modifications.
As of now my alternator is on the left and I dont believe you can leave the coolant manifold in the stock location. I had originally decided that the water manifold should point to the front of the car. Its the quickest path for the radiator fluid. That is why I chose to rotate the water manifold. Plus I think its a cleaner look.
