oxyboxer fan/cooling options

i am still in doubt about whether or not i should start building an oxyboxer since i already have a case lying around.

for the costs i was just wondering about the fanshroud i should use. cos i've seen a few with porsche style shrouds, but i hate the fact that it will cost me like $1000 more since it is so expensive. now, what are the other options i have? are there other kits?

would this work?

No, those in the picture are for converting a type 4 engine to upright
cooling. You can use stock type 1 shroulds .

you're right about the picture, but could i use any type 1 shroud?
i thought measurements differed?

That stuff is just because there are no oil cooler provisions on a stock wbx case, and there is no other way to add a cooler to the inside of the shroud. You could use whatever shroud that works on a t1 and run a remote cooler, or come up with an adaptor like in the picture.....

What is the offset like between centerlines of cylinder banks? is it closer to a type 1? or to a type 4?

It is the same spacing as a type 1, since it is a water cooled T1. The T1 and wasser cranks are the same length and bore spacing.

But I was under the impression that the bolt spacing for the heads was similar to the type 4. true? fiction?

Different terminilogy. Bore spacing is the center to center distance between the bores.
You are asking about the cylinder head stud bore spread (there is another term for it). Wasser is different from T1 and T4.
Wasser is close to autocraft "4 inch".

I have a yard full of vanagons. I'm just waiting until I can afford an 88mm stroker crank to make it worth while.

The best part is a 4.5 quart sump stock with no sump plate.

I don't see why not, there are several of us using 86mm cranks in them.

You can use up to a 90mm crank maybe even bigger. Its all about how much you have to remove from the camshaft. Rocky
