2L Rod Bearing Option -REDUX-

I am updating this because, after further thought, it may not be necessary to have the old bearing retaining grooves welded up prior to filing the new grooves. As such, this bearing conversion is as simple as sending your rods out to be reconditioned, and requesting your machinist to bore the big-end diameter to the new bearing size. The bearing grooves *can* be hand-filed/ground if you are careful.


Bearing option:

Late 80's Dodge Daytona Shelby (2.2L Turbo).
Clevite tri-metal p/n: CB1269P

The bearing is 20mm wide; the 2.2L rod journal is 50mm, like the 2L T4.

Modifications: The big end diameter needs to be bored to 52.992 - 53.008 mm (53 +/- 0.05mm); in inches, the stock 2L rod is 2.079", it needs to be bored out to 2.0866"...about 0.007" overbore. The bearing retaining tangs of this Dodge bearing are on the wrong sides compared to the 2L bearing. New bearing retaining grooves will need to be filed on the opposite side of the rod (e.g. near the other rod bolt, on the other side of the big-end) in the appropriate place for the new bearing. The old retaining grooves may arguably be left in place.

Now if SCCA would just let us do that per the rule book for the EP engines...

I have done this already and it will work, BUT its not for the guy that isn't one for risk taking- you have to trust your handywork above all else..

Hell, a member here on the forums has an engine WITH THESE same bearings installed and it came from me and worked great..
