As far as brand. I live by the "BUY SHIAT, GOT SHIAT" rule. So do it once, and try and budget about $600, but remember, that the welding bug, is alot like the BUG bug. Once you get started, you can't stop.
If you are looking for a 110 machine, the Lincoln 135, Miller 135, or the new Hobart 140, are all excelent machines.
You can get a cheapo for under $200, but replacement parts are hard to come by.
Go Gas from the start because flux core does not do a good job on sheet metal.
