EMS Vs. Carbs on the dyno

Post by MASSIVE TYPE IV »

Check this out!
This engine is destined for a 64 Doublecab!!!! I have not been shooting for HP, just grunt and torque...

The EFI run is on top and the carb run is on the bottom. We hit programming issues at 4700 RPM and had to do some measures to go higher. Just look how far down the EFI engine pulls and how smooth the power is... Thecarbed engine would stall at less than 2000 RPM!

Just imagine when we can hit 6,000 revs!

This is the initial, first power pull on the EMS, the MAPS are not even optimized yet! The carb run was the best out of 7 carbbed power pulls we did yesterday for direct comparison- it was fully optimized.

Is that a four barrel EMS or a center throttle type ?

Disregard that post. I read the other one now.

Jeeeeez Look at the difference in torque at 2K.

Remember the other day I said I ve seen alot of your graphs and they al look similar? Not this one!

Taking the engine down to 1000 revs makes the whole chart look different..

uhhhh, what's a "carb"? is that those things that make you fat and you should try to avoid on your diet?

Nothing new there to me, Jake, that's why I don't own any "carbs".

WOW!!

All I can say is holy Sh*# That is one of the most impressive graphs I have seen to date. That is just unreal. If this keeps up, I may end up sending my engine back down for a "retune" with the efi. Would be great for off road. No fuel slosh. I'll be keeping my eyes on this, can't wait to see the end result!!

BTW, just got my BAS in today. It won't be long until I finally get to hear my RAT 2316 come to life.......Life is good:-) Only problem, I just realized that I don't have any exhaust "gaskets". Jake, do you happen to have a set you could toss into my parts box before you ship it? You can let me know what I owe you.

Jake, Do you think you will want to try some different cams with the EMS giving so much down low?

Nice!
Good to see you finally found your way to EFI.
Now THAT's aircooled technology!

Very informative to see some bach to back comparison. Nothing more pursuasive than hard data and a visual graph :D
Next step could be some different ports and cams to complement the EFI even more!

nice, really nice. I know you don't like the stock L-Jet because of its limitations, and i understand that it won't work on a highly modified engine, but I pulled the heads off my 'broken crank special' last night and thanks to your insight on deck height (.037") and I'm sure the injection, those are the cleanest chambers and pistons I've ever seen in an ACVW ( not that I've got near the experience you do!) Is that fuel curve for real or disconnected? (honestly I don't know exactly what it represents, I just know the flatter the better.) If you guys can get this system reliable and proven to work with the stock components a lot of people will be stoked. Personally I still don't totally trust FI (if something moves, I can figure it out, if electrons move, I'm lost  ), but you can't argue with the dyno, nor with the seat of your pants, on my bus I could mash the throttle at 1000 rpm in 3rd and it would pull smoothly up to redline. Hmm, maybe that's why I broke the crank :D . keep us all posted as usual, and once again thanks for all your R&D, and most especially sharing it with us! You da man! Cliff

What really impresses me is how well a nasty cam will idle and pull from low RPM's. You can see some of that in your graphs, but it really comes home when you drive it.

Yep, its been a real learning curve for me.... This system is just so simple... Looks like I'll have a system on my 2270 test engine, and the 912 will both get this system..

We are having some resolution issues at higher RPM, but we are getting close to working out those. This is the first big engine that the EMS has been installed onto, and the first Dyno that it has seen. Having the builder of the system here to see the issues and show me the inner workings of the system has been great!

2563 type IV... configured for low revs and high torque.

Hey Jake,

What happened to the BFSC on the injected dyno graph? I'm curious to see how it compares with the carb'd version.
