stroking the wasserboxer
Is it possible to run a 84 mm crank in the wasserboxer case, with 55 mm journals? and maybe combine it with 101.6 mm bore? 4 inch or 101.6 is the same, I believe some of the US V8 engine has that kind of bore. I don't know yet where to source the cylinders.

It will be aircooled.
I know some Swedish racers had 101.6mm of bore on a modified T-1 case. They had put one steelplate under the cylinders on each side of the engine, and I belive they moved the studs. The wasserboxer have a bigger stud spacing, so my plan was to keep it where they belong, the main reason is to use a real aluminum case, not a magnesium and not a reproduced one.

Guest, I have moved out the head studs on the h2o boxer case to run 4.060, 103.12. I run a 86mm stroke. thats a 2873cc Go to my web site. I do the machine work, but its $$$. www.rockyjennings.com Thanks Rocky

Fatsback, You can use any number of cranks. Scat flanged all t-4 mains . Or you can use a early bug crank (non cross drilled) welded for a 86mm stroke chevy rods with all bug size mains. I have made special brgs that fit the 1.9 case to bug crank in std & .010. I have .020 line bore thrust 1.9 brgs, again from h2o boxer to bug crank in std & .010 crank size. I have set up every thing from 85.5, 90.5 94mm, 101.6 & 103.12 in a h2o boxer case. I have moved the stud holes in for the 85.5 thru 94mm Left the stud holes in the stock location for the 101.6 & moved the holes out for 103.12. The h2o crank is not a good crank to weld & stroke passed 82mm as it is a cross-drilled crank. Do you want cylinders that have fins?, or is the engine going to be used for a drag car. Thanks Rocky

Whats the max bore staying water cooled? 97mm? 101.6?
Stroke? (staying water cooled...)
Have a water cooled bored/stroked combo that works?
(97x80 should be a drop in...???)
Have parts?

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Piledriver, I have a 2.5l Oettinger wbx 98x82mm, I have to bore the cyl. to 99mm due to scathes, and fit new pistons.
I think that you could go even bigger!?.. Pics here:

Yeah, I remember that, very cool.
What rods does it use, and where did you get new pistons?
Pin height? Old pistons usable again? (in stock wbx jugs, rebored? Sounds weird, but it doesn't matter if the piston has a groove if the jug is smooth!, and I'm sure reboreing a stock WBX jug would be cheaper...??? those pistons you have are OK if the ring lands are good) Rod length if custom? Pin height?
I'm still trying to find info on a viable drop in bore/stroke/rod/piston dimensional combo, but I forgot you had one already!
The 101.6 jugs referred to almost certainly are custom, and require block/head machining, but allow that "magic" 4 inch bore---and there are probably dozens (hundreds?) of Small block chevy piston configurations, and relatively inexpensive... at least over here.
I keep hearing that a 2.1 MV with 1.4 Berg/Scat rockers is good for ~130-140 BHP, with a chip, so yours with more compression should rock! 2474cc is nothing to sneeze at... Esp if you can fit bigger valves.
It occured to me the other day that IIRC, one of the German tuners of WBX engines recesses the valves in the heads ~5mm, and reshapes the combustion chamber... but that technique may have a added bonus of allowing standard length valves... just a thought.
(otherwise for a HiPo wasser head you need custom length valves etc...)

It uses STD 2.1 rods modified by Oettinger so the Rod length if std. The pistons come very close to the crank on the down stroke!
I don?t think that the STD jugs would go bigger than 96 perhaps 97mm, the Oettinger jugs are already 98mm and could be bored to 99mm without any problem,
I don?t have the pistons yet, but I think that J & E or Ross pistons would be able to make a set,
The old pistons are history ( as you can se in the pics) unfortunaly and the jugs have scratches so I think it is the only way to go?.
Meanwhile I am preparing a new case and heads, the heads will have 44x37mm valves and I?ll keep the comp at 10:1, with a scat c35 cam (I love torque) 1.25: rockers, and Megasquirt injection?
Any input will be appreciated
Jesper

It ALMOST looks like they machined the crown down on a oversize stock piston... The pin>oil ring land distance appears the same.
Hmmmmmmmmm.
So the Oettinger jugs are thicker than stock, machine-ins if I understand you correctly.
It's great that the stock rod is used... Means that any aftermarket VW T1 rod will work, the rods are supposedly a weak point on the WBX,
and chromoly rods with 3/8" ARP bolts would likely help...
(we are talking custom pistons, so 22mm pins a better rods are a good idea IMHO)
The ring lands look OK... Could they be turned down to 97mm, and used by...
ME ( for example ;-) in bored stock jugs on another block?
(I know, they have to be ground to an oval shape...)
Have a pin height measurement?
I'll be happy with 97x82, most likely, 2423 cc will be enough...
Are you doing your own heads, and are you recessing the valves
so non-custom lengths can be used?
(or is that a figment of my overactive imagination?)
