I don't know how many were made, but I'm sure that enough castings were made to make the venture profitable. Small batches of castings are expensive. Once you start casting, it's pretty cheap to just keep on casting.Honda's Killer wrote:Do they match the heads you currently have.
Even if the bore is off you can make parts that will make it work.
Do you know how many heads were made?
They appear to be exactly what I have now, only in pure Harley form. My heads were machined fresh from the mold, not converted from a previous Harley setup. And mine have QUITE A BIT of custom machining.
I'm in no position to buy them. The big deal really is that now I can see, as can everyone else, how the heads, pistons, chambers, rocker boxes, and all that. Also, I believe that looking at the torque figures on the head studs and rocker boxes on Harley heads will lead me to the correct figures to torque mine. If I know those, I may be able to disassemble mine safely and get it back together.
It does explain a little bit about my configuration. The stock Evo pistons are 3.750", or 92.075mm. My pistons are 92mm. coincidence? I doubt it, knowing what I know about JF. And better yet, I can see the pistons and chamber, and how they interact. The devil is in there somewhere.

Hey Carl, I looked over the externals of your engine pretty closely at the classic. Those Harley heads on ebay look real close to me, also. It would make sense that they are the same casting, but I would guess the stud parttern to be different enough to not bolt up. The rockers might also have a different location for the pushrod hole and shaft, but no way to know without striping your engine down and measuring some things.
I couldn't figure out why your engine has stock but shortened pushrod tubes on one bank, and shortened 2-piece JayCee-looking tubes on the other.

I would imagine the head stud pattern is close, but not the same, between an Evo and a VW. Rumor from the gang at Feuling was that while he was working on developing the Evo engine stuff it clicked in his head that a VW pattern is really close.
The rocker box covers are definatley different. Mine are just custom aluminum billets. I know that the rockers at custom, since the pushrod in my engine does not come in any where near the same spot or angle as the Hog.
It is interesting though. Again, I'm not looking to duplicate the engine or any of the machining or welding unless I am forced to. But it's good to know what they were designed for, and what they look lke from all angles. It also helps know how to take them apart correctly.

That engine was positively bad ass. It was so funny to see people at the Classic (I was working the HVWs booth directly across from it all day) walk by my rat rod chassis, walk by the engine, get about 3-5 feet away, and then hit the skids, walk backwards, and take another look at the engine, and then another, and then another... some actually got right down on their knees, or on their backs (and it was pretty hot on the asphalt) to look under the engine... they would scratch their head, one guy would point to the serial #'s on the engine case, and I watched some pretty major discussions go down about that engine... Thanks again to Carl "Searoy" for the loan of it...
