Sand Blasters - Are Pressurized Worth the Extra Cash

Post by MNAirHead »

For occasional use, is the difference between siphon and pressurized blasters worth the extra $100.

Like most tools, I'm sure there's a big difference.. would rather keep cash in the bank whenever possible.

Currently using Wire Brushes for most things

at our shop we use siphon, and havent had any problems except every once in a while if the hose is too curved it will not blast for a few seconds...or you can just kinda shake it or straighten it out. i remember this summer i was wire-wheeling my frontend, took FOREVER

but all in all and being a cheap-ass myself, keep the $100 and spend it on something else

I used a siphon exclusively until I picked up a pressurized. With the pressure tank I can turn down the psi and still get good results. Lower pressure and lots of cfm strips well without heating and warping.

Both will do the job and my blast cabinets still have siphons but for big stuff it is tough to beat the tank.

Thanks for the pointers... when it's only random use, didn't know if it was worth the cash.

Warm Regards.

Built your tank...

How did you do it?

May be the route to go... there are tons of tanks available... hate spending the $150 on a tool that would only be used 1x per year.

I made my own blaster out of a tank to and it works great. It looks just like the one above. I wouldnt use that valve it seems to leak really bad for me after a few uses. Get the nozzle with the tip that closes. You can look at mine some time if you want. Alex

P.S.
Tim. I am really sorry I just found all your emails about those 36 Dellortos. My old email is really messed up. I still have them but they are going on my 55 bus. If you still want me to help you with some carbs I can.

Blasting is the only way to go. I have used both and they work great. It all depends on what and were you are working on/in/at. And the blasting media also makes a big difference on what you want to do.

Do you have a bad problem of water getting in there and clogging it?
