Deck height

I am building a 1776 with CB 044s, a c/w crank, Kadrons by A.J., an SVDA disrtibutor, a Web-Cam 163 grind and an extractor. I have 0 deck height and intended to use .040 copper head gaskets. I am concerned that I may be running too high a C.R. for this motor. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

get on cb's site nad check out hte engine calculator
you can find out what numbers your engine has by plugging in a few known factors.

Assuming the head CCs are ~55, you'll have 8¼:1 - I sure wouldn't go any higher on pump gas.
I would not recommend running only .040" piston-to-head clearance at 90.5 bore (you can get away with it but there's zero safety margin - I'd run .050").

Thanks for weighing in. I thought that I might be a little close to the edge on this one. Rather than spacers, I will use a .060 copper head gasket. I haven't seen .050s.

what cam are you running???

A Web 163 is .422x284

VGM posted the same specs as are on the cam card. Only other things that I didn't mention are that it is full-flowed with a Mexican doghouse shroud and in a "54 bug running heater boxes.

If you want .050", just use the .040" gaskets and a .010" shim under each barrel - it makes no difference to the final quench volume whether it's done with head gaskets or barrel shims.
