Full flow filter location???

I have put full flow filtration on my new ghia engine. Right now the filter is mounted in the engine cpmpartment on the old oil bath air cleaner support stand. I dont like the appearance or the long hoses.

Any recommendations and pictures of "best locations" would be appreciated

Some folks hang the filter off the #4 exhuast studs with the proper bracket. I'm pretty sure you can get that bracket from AC.net.

Some folks use the bumper bracket bolts. I prefer a little higher mounting position like this:

You are right, I have seen them both ways. I'm just not that fond of the filter being right behind the tire, with road debries and scum piling up on it.

But I drive mine 365 days a year.

there's lots of space next to the shroud on the firewall to mount one... when I get my motor built i'm gonna put it to the left of the shroud on the firewall...

Just did one on a buddy's Ghia, we did the bumper-bolt mount. I thought about putting it up on the firewall, but...

...didn't want to cut holes through the tin, and...

...didn't want those braided steel lines and that oil filter radiating heat, no matter how little, onto the top side of my engine compartment.

On my Thing I mounted the filter under the car near the valve cover. I mounted to a piece of angle aluminum. I don't like drilling holes in vintage metal either but... hmm

I mounted the extra cooler inside the engine compartment because there is so much extra room in a thing plus tons of air flow too.

To those of you bolting the filter up to the firewall....how on earth I you going to change it without spilling oil all over your engine bays?

The 67 I just bought has it mounted underneath the package tray opposite the external cooler.

Make a catch-funnel with a long hose running out of the engine compartment, or fashion a small bucket from a plastic jug, then poke holes in the filter and let it drain down; loosen it, slip a big freezer-bag Baggie over it and remove. Sometimes just the Baggie trick is good enough.
I used to have to squeeze the filter into the engine compartment to keep it inside the protection of the bumper system in circletrack Beetles - but I wouldn't go to the trouble for a road car.

You dont need to be too concerned actually... I installed my filter to the left of the rocker cover (drivers side) - its pretty close to the tire: http://bugman.50megs.com/images/thermoinstalled.JPG
And I have yet to even get a ding in one. I was seriously concerned initially, and was planning on putting a shield in front of it but found it doesnt really need one (yet...). Puts it in a very easy location to change too (and very little mess).

Mines off the bumper bolt on a '63 bug. Nice short hoses. Here's another question. Horizontal, vertical or upside down? Mines slightly off vertical. Lower on bottom of filter. Tim
