Berg actually makes WBX cranks and references some "big bore" kits out of Germany.
Surprised me as well that Berg does these cranks.

I have no problem getting a crank made, I just need to know what fits (within reason), what rods to use, and what pistons....
I want to build this without it taking forever as I find what does NOT fit.

I think it is Mahle that makes 98 mm. pistons & cylinders for use along with an 82 mm stroke. (2474 cc) At least they used to.
John, if you want me to, I will check into it. just let me know.

I believe that is what Gene Berg built for his Vanagon, 98x 82 or was it 96x86? Could ask them. I've ridden in that Vanagon, Ohmigod power! And cruzes with all the current crop of minivans out across the desert.

OK Guys, I know a lot about the aircooled, and a bit about the waterboxer. I want to build a larger (not stupid big) wasserboxer. Would someone that KNOWS (no guessing, I can guess as good as anyone) please post what to do? I think I can go with 95s by boring the cylinders (where to get pistons; I may design some squishies for this application, it would be perfect), what stroke and rods do I use, etc. I'm going to port the heads, and put our turbo kit on it, with a special cam, I just need help with the crank/rod/piston area, I know you can't shim as easily as the aircooled!
Thanks

The biggest one can go is 101.6mm. custom sleeves and custom pistons.
use the stock crank and its 2476 ccm.
You need alot of dish in the pistons, buts it no problem.
And yes its been tested... at 28psi of boost.

Hi
Freind of mine showed me some 96s out of a 2.7 deisel Toyota HiLux, they looked like they would fit. There is some Ford pistons on the wiseco site, they 4.020 (102.1 mm) # K272A2, they might be worth looking at. Check out truck supplies, they can usually get diffrent size liners.

Hi
Just had another thought, why not use some type 4 barrels & pistons, and turn the fins down a bit, Im not sure if the barrels are long enough.

Personally I wouldn't bother going to the trouble of making it as big as possible, a well built 2.1 turbo with the right ancillaries can easily make 300hp, more if you're brave
It'a just a matter of controlling the fueling and desiging an exhaust that will work with the turbo

I heard someone used 97mm Porsche pistons...
Yeah how much work to make a set of type1 or 4 barrels fit with the fins removed?

I actually looked at some cylinders last night I had here. I think 96s would be cake, bore the stock liners out. The problem is piston dish. I may have to look at these for a few weeks and come up with a squishy for the wasserboxer head!

i have no idea if they would work but have you looked at Jack's 101's that are suposedly set up for the t1 spacing? no clue what the bolt pattern would be.

You might check with Bob @ Boston Engine. He has a lot of good things said about him on the Vanagon and Syncro lists.. They have a web site http://www.bostonengine.com/
