I don't want to put any of you guys on the spot, BUT.
What kind of cost are we looking at for all this machine work. Looks like a lot of trial fitting and machining for John Public to build themselfs.
Joe and Rocky do the stuff, but what can we do our selves. I don't mind paying for machine work and such, but it seems I can'd build it myself.

Well, after the case has been modified, by you, us, or a local machine shop...

Modify the dipstick / dipstick tube yourself...

Modify the tin / shroud yourself...

Make your own oil cooler adapter yourself..
- Or I can help with this..

You can machine the cylinders yourself,(if you have access to an engine lathe) have a local shop do it, ect... Or I could help you here too.

- Requires the same procedures as any other motor, calculate CR, Deck height, cc volume, ect..

After that it's pretty much like putting together any other V.W. motor, Yourself or otherwise..

Good Luck, - Joe

Really the only 2 parts that need machinist special attension (more than normal stuff for any engine) is the custom lathed cylinders and the head stud relocation.

On the head stud location I am wondering if eccentric bolts are available? Granted I think the holes need bored bigger anyway which would be tough at home.

Pretty simple really. Less than the cost of clearancing, boring, full flowing and all that stuff from a machine shop you just get a few other mods done which from what I can tell is cheaper anyway.

You can easily cut the waterjackets off at home with a grinder and cut off wheel. About two hours per side worst case.

The original stud holes are moved, in addition to the special case inserts, will relocate the studs...
