Valve pocket defined.

What is the valve "pocket"? Is it the area on the combustion chamber side of the valve? Is this part of the un-shrouding process? I just read an article that has thrown me off from what I thought before.

Yes the Pocket is the area around the valve. Larger valves need this Pocket enlarged. If you put big Valves in a stock head, you can end up with less air flow because the large valve is so close to the alum. there is no room. If you set the stock cylinder in a stock head you will see the valve opening (pocket) comes close to the cylinder or cylinder seating surface. When large cylinders are installed this pocket must be opened up so it will still be close to the seating surface. If not done you will have a flat squash area around the valve that will work against the air flow. Vic www.1800vw.com

Sounds just like un-shrouding the valves. Is this term one in the same?

The Pocket is the area under the valve seat.

This is the area that gets blended, hence the term "Pocket Port".

Isn't that "bowl blending"? Are the terms "pocket porting" and "bowl blending" the same? I havn't been using the term pocket porting for this reason! Now I'm really confused!
