US dollars...If you actually looked at the SDS price list you might have figured that out.

People please, look at the site before asking questions. It has almost all the info you need like a price, FAQ and applications sections.

I don't make anything off of this, other then the same discount everyone else will get. As long as we pay separately, but as a group, they will ship to each person.

Programmable electronic fuel injection (PEFI)

Is anyone interested in a SDS PEFI GROUP BUY?

Base system list is $785 or $1165 for the full meal deal (crank trigger ignition) for the 4-cylinder version.(full list price, not counting discount)

Discount is 10% off for 2 systems and up to 25% off for 10 systems.

So that could = the base 4 cylinder system for approximately $600* or about the price of a new MPS.

*(Based on the basic system, no options with 10 people in the buy for a 25% discount, no shipping.)

This is for the brain only, many options, you must check out their site and decide what you want/need. Will work on the stock engine and intake system to get you going. Then you can go hipo crazy (cam, TB’s, stroker, etc.) if you want. (I think with a few options $800. to $1000.+ is maybe a more realistic cost per system.)

http://www.sdsefi.com/

The points I like about it are: you don’t need a laptop (which is good for me as I’m totally ‘puter stupid), the controller stays in the car, they will build it with a real CHT sender, they custom tailor the harness, the base system isn’t too expensive, info BBS, they have aircooled experience and the guy uses it on his own plane. A couple of bugs and a couple of 911’s are running this system, one 914 in progress.

Check it out, sounds good to me, but if you’ve heard anything bad about them let me know. The only real negatives that I have heard so far is; the CPU isn’t waterproof and the 914 guy said that he was having trouble (stock fan) mounting the crank trigger.

6 cylinder version base price $ 815, full meal deal $1320. (full list price, not counting discount)
8 cylinder and Mazda 2 rotor systems also available.

If anyone is interested shoot me an email. I’m thinking about buying at the end of April/May.

If one is not well versed using a laptop the SDS is the way to go. Now that I am use to my SDS I would not use any other.

I did originally post this on the club914 site, so something's like MPS and using your stock intake system may sound weird, sorry for any confusion. Mark

We now have 4 people interested, that's good for a 15% discount, but it's early yet.

Well, I just wrote the guy(s) an email...I AM interested for my turbo 2332 buggy engine, I would really rather have an EFI system instead of a draw thru holley or even blow thru webbers. Question: How would you do the induction (i.e. where to put the injectors and what butterfly system to use). Do yo pay MORE for CB's throttle bodies or siply drill your manifold (stock or similar)? And again, do you use the throttle bodies or get a single butterfly off of a V6 or something? I'm pretty new to the fuel injection scene, but know my VW!

Yep, this system, like most on the market is brain (ECU) only, or brain + ignition if you buy that option.

I should say it's the ECU, controller (no laptop required), wiring harness, temp senders, instructions, BBS and warranty only.

You must fabricate, buy, modify and/or use the stock intake systems.

Turbo's work fine with a single TB then you can use stock end castings or if it's a T4 the whole intake. The forced induction forum can help you with this, plus there are a lot of good turbo sites.

The SDS site has a lot of good info and FAQ's about TB's, NA, turbo's, injectors, etc. So much info that is part of the reason I not rushing the buy, you have until the middle of April to make up you mind.

This is not a complete system, you need a intake/TB set-up, FI fuel pump, pressure regulator, injectors, hose, 2 fuel lines to the tank, a surge tank or surge ring in your tank and a air/fuel meter is recommended.

The only complete NA systems out there are the:
CB system is $1800. you still need an air/fuel meter and IMHO the CB system sucks because it has very limited adjustability.

Redline/Weber is $3200. plus you need a laptop and the air/fuel meter.

I only have two questions at this point...one: dou you HAVE to have a surge tank (and what is a 'surge ring')? And two: What is the best way to fab up a set of fuel rails? If they sell the 'bar stock' cut to length...do you drill it yourself...or is the better way to get one off a junk yard engine. I love my new TIG welder...I can fab up damn near anything.

Very important! You have to have a surge tank or ring to keep air from entering the fuel pump when you go around corners.
All FI VW's have a gas tank with a surge ring. It's just a baffle, which is an approximately 3" high ring of sheet metal with a couple of small holes at the bottom, to hold gas over the outlet. Also you need an outlet and an inlet on the tank, whether you use a surge ring or tank.

If you can't get a FI tank then the surge tank is the next easiest solution. It’s just a 750ml or 1 liter (quart) steel or aluminum can, which would be real easy to fab or have made locally. Full instructions are on the SDS web site. I have a 914 and plan to do a bit of AX with it, I have a surge ring but I may do a tank as well.

You can make your own fuel rails out of bar stock, but remember you also have to have some kind of hold down device. Most stock VW (bosch) injectors have hose connectors and even for hipo (most) the stock FI hardware is all you need. If the hose part of the injector is funky but the injector is good, you can carefully cut the swedge off. Always use good FI hose and the Wurth type clamps.

The junkyard is a good source for parts, injectors, pumps, TB's, etc, lots of stuff.

Hey thanks for the info. Does anyone know if there is a sizing chart of injectors that could tell me "24 lbph came stock on an '87 buick blah blah" and so on? I still havent figured out what size injectors I need for my new engine...if someone could point me in the right direction...

I'm definitely interested in the group buy but it'll be a couple of weeks before I'm certain that I can commit.

At this time we have seven people interested including myself. That is good for the 20% discount, if people don’t back out. I’m thinking that my MasterCard Credit Card bill (posting date) is sent out on the 23rd of the month, if you guys are the same we could do it on April 24th, then we can all get an extra month to save our coin. What do you guys think?

I would like to send a letter of intent to SDS (Racetech) in a couple of weeks. I plan on asking them the time line as to ‘order date vs. billing date vs. shipping date'. This means that you have just a month at the most to make up your mind on your system and options.

Anyone who is finding it hard to come up with the coin for the FI and the crank fire ignition, remember that many other systems don’t have the ignition option and PEFI only is still a good choice. Also if you need a bunch of extras (options) you could get the base system then get the other stuff later. I don't think that you can do this with the ignition though, it requires programming.

FYI, we have had two people say there in, then back out of the buy just as fast.
To save anyone from possible embarrassment, I will not list people in on the buy publicly. If people who buy systems want to list their names before or after the buy, they can do so themselves.
