The first thing is getting it in the car as most airports will not let you do it at there facilities. It is possible to get it but you will have to run it at the track only. The Goverment frowns on it being used on the roads. Its a taxes thing.

Airplane fuel is pretty low quality with a lot of tax on it. Do some searches in Google and see for your self. I know a couple of pilots who use car gas because it burns better and is a whole lot cheaper.

The octane numbers on AvGas look impressive but they use a different testing method - airplane engines are low specific-output, low-compression engines and run at a fairly low constant speed as a rule (all characteristics shared with a STOCK ACVW engine, but you probably didn't have a stocker in mind, huh? They do still put 2% lead in the 100LL fuel, which is illegal for street use these days. You can play with mixing it with automotive fuel or race gas, but it really isn't worth the trouble in my experience. You might find this interesting:

thanks for the info guys.
i know a few people that run there Camaros
on Avgas. in my small town it is easy to get. i went with my budy to fill up. just drive 2 miles to the airport and drive right up to the pump. the guy working there said "that sure is a weird looking plane". then started to fill us up.
but i'm sure there is some type of law for doing that esp here in California.

running any different viscosity fuel will change tuning , both timing and jetting.
Avgas, has lubricant properties, and is made for low chamber pressures, as aircraft turn 25-3500 RPM max, else their props explode...No engine revving, no acceleration, or deceleration for hours at a time...Not a wise choice for a car.

thats interesting info. it seams to work well in th camero though. he has a 350 with a 750cfm carb. noth else special. but it sure suprises me with the power. it can break traction at 50mph. looking to keep up with him in the old v-dub.

Perhaps your friend should do some back to back tests at the drag strip. Make a couple of passes on avgas then drain the tank and make a couple on pump gas. Then to really make him mad try it on some real race gas (Cam2, Powermist, etc). He'll probably see very little change in et/speeds as his car doesn't have a knock sensor, EFI, or any other means of knowing what octane it's burning or how to take advantage of it. And as you said it's just got a big carb and nothing else special, i.e. factory compression, valve, chambers, ignition etc.
On the positive side, with all the money he saves by running pump gas from now on he'll quickly be able to buy some go fast goodies.

Man are they crazy! Avgas has a special anti-freezing agent in it that keeps the fuel from freezing at high altitude. Am I right on this Jake?
