I'm about to make an order to Gene Berg Enterprises. It looks like I'm gonna be purchasing the Berg rubber mounted intermediate mount. I'm also buying their hard rubber motor mounts.

I'm still not quite sure what to get for the transmission nose mount. This is for a '69 IRS tranny.

What do you all think of Berg's mounts when it comes to street performance and occasional strip runs? I haven't called them up yet...does anybody know the pricing on the set up I mentioned?

Is there anything else that works well. Any ideas are appreciated.

Logan

I have Berg tranny mounts and tranny crossmember and they work great. The drivetrain doesn't rock and the ride is not to harsh.

Could you let me know how the intermediate mount attaches. How hard is it to install one. From what I can tell....I'll be welding the mount to the frame horns. Is that right?

Thanks

Yes, with the berg mount, you must weld the tabs on to the fork, it's a very good investment, then stick w/stock mounts.

You have to weld the "tabs" to the frame fork and the actual mounts attaches to the studs that hold the intermediate housing to the tranny case.

I installed one earlier in the year on a DKP car. it took almost 3 hours to do. But thats because i was very picky about how it went on, i did a little bit of grinding to the brackets to make them fit nice and tight before welding and then used a tig welder witch made it a little harder then a wire feed. but this was put on a first class car so it needed a first class install.
not that hard. the biggest plus i had was i already made up some aluminum blocks to replace the rubber ones, so those were used to hold the brackets in place securly while i welded. (they didnt drift or move around.)and i didnt have to worry about melting rubber.

The parts are already ordered and on the way. I feel cool now Image

When welding the tabs in place....should the transmission be in place already and the big mount attached to it so that all you have to do is weld the tabs where they are located when the tranny is in place? (sorry about the strange wording of that question)

Or am I supposed to weld the tabs on and then install the tranny?

Thanks a lot everyone Image

The tranny has to be in so that you can see where the cross member lines up with them. Otherwise you would just be guessing where to weld them. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your question.

No...you got the question right. I was just making sure. The only other possiblibity I could think of is if there were some sort of pattern or jig or something that showed you where to weld the brackets.

Thank you

That would vary from car to car, you just install it & weld.

No problem. The cross member bolts to the tranny and that is how you line up the tabs to weld. It's not that hard if you have a welder which I don't so a buddy of mine welded them in after I put the crossmember and such on.

Yeah. I don't worry about welding. I use a MIG and an Arc (stick) welder. I have each in my garage but seldom use the Arc Welder. (I only use it on seriously thick metal welding)

I should probably be able go get the whole job done pretty quick then. Sounds good. I can't wait to have everything in my car.

lets see

upgrades that have been ordered and are on the way:
  • New Rancho pro street tranny with slightly close ratio 3rd gear.
  • Brand new traction bar
  • new HD berg rubber tranny and motor mounts all around
  • new berd tranny intemediate mount
  • new shift rod bushing and coupler
  • distributor rotor rev limiter
  • MESA oil cooler with nice thermostadt
This was quite a purchase for me. Lots of money went out of my wallet for this one (I've been saving up for about a year just for this). But the cool thing is that I had the cash for everything.

I'm gonna have a really fun street driver car now once this is finished. Image

....If I could only get the engine to run right. DAMN! I'll be rebuilding the carbs while the engine is out. But when the engine is doing well....it is a screamer (in my opinion)

I need to get everything done by October 5th for the Volkstoberfest in Indianapolis (everyone go to it...it is the first annual and is gonna be cool)

My big problem is that I in college about 100 miles from my car and I can only work on it when I come home on the weekends. I have 4 weekends to finish everything and I'm not gonna get the tranny until at least the 3rd weekend. (CRAP). I'll just pull some all-nighters I guess.

Once I go to the show and take the "best of show" award then I'll take the car to IRP that weekend and run it down the 1/4 mile a bunch of times and see how quick I can get it. I would be happy if the ET started with 13.anything 13.99 would be great. But I doubt that will happen my first time out. At least I'll have a 60' time to kill anything I go up against, right?

If you want the ultimate in traction, get the Tracy Grimm rear chassis brace and forget the traction bar. It's well worth the cost.

order a Berg shifter now and you will really be set...........Have you read the Berg tech articles on gearing? Sort of a must before ordering a tranny......there are an awful lot of choices that can be made
