The thing about lobe centers.

The thing about lobe centers.

Post by James2 »

Is not so much how big they are, it's that they are perfectly round....and balanced.

See, if your lobe center is out of round, or heaven forbid, out of balance....Jake can tell you about that, it going to be bad for the valves.

Those centers need to be round and balanced. If not your cam timing is going to be jumping all over the place. your valves won't know if they are coming or going. That dang old valve will be shaking like a 2 dollar hooker waiting in line at the meth clinic.

Now, the 108 degree centers and the 112 degree centers are alright....you know for street stuff. But the real race cars run 360 degree lobe centers. That way the lifter is fully supported all the time. No need to worry about your lifter falling off center.

Anybody who has spent a weekend replacing piston return springs because a lifter has fallen off center can tell you all about the need for 360 lobe centers.

Anything less then 360 and your going to be broken in the pits, lickty split, no poop!!!

Trust me, it will be worth the extra you spend in beer saved alone! i think John offers the full lobe centers as an option on the web cams. Email him about it.

now some say to rifle drill your cam. Don't do it. cause any fool knows your going to drill the lobe center clear out of it!!!

And your balanced and blueprinted 360 degree lobe center does no good when it's a pile of shavings laying on the machine shop floor.

I hope this has cleared up the confusion about lobe centers.

Hey don't laugh...I balanced the cam in my 2332, it was amazing how far out it was....

I had never tried it before, and now since I have the mandrel for it I think its gonna be common practice....Taking weight is somewhat of a challenge, though..gotta do it in the mill.

Balancing camshafts? I've had them magged, but never balanced.

How about rotating your spark plugs? Also, don't forget to put fresh air in the tires. And make sure you've lubed the muffler bearing---you do NOT want that to seize up on you at 2am when in that bad area while buying crack. Don't ask me how I know.
