Sealing an engine case?
What is the best product to use for sealing the case halves. I thought this was discussed previously but my search didn't turn up the thread. Thanks!

Gasgacinch is sweet, but I have a helluva time finding it local.
i've used Permetex "Super 300" with good results also.

Curil is the best stuff. It does not dry and seals perfectly.

anybody ever try the Black RTV? this stuff is used by some of 'the big 3' in place of actual gaskets; i.e. diff covers, etc.

Do NOT use any kind of RTV or silicone on the case halves.
You can find Gaskasinch at Pep Boys and Curil from Berg.

RTV is too thick, the cases are or should be matching surfaces. I use Permatex High tack, is like contact cement,

Permatex Forms-a-Gasket is what I always use. Otherwise known as Aviation Sealant. A VERY thin coat is all that is needed.

i like the k-2 curil or the permatex i think it's the 3H or part # 80019. both of these are a semi drying sealant that will push out of the case halves and allow them to seal to each other.
i don't like to use RTV because it will begin to dry and lump up and actually prevent the case halves from sealing to each other properly.
just my 2 cents worth

Sealing an engine case?
afew years ago I quit using permatex aviation, after I realized it was only good for 1200 hours, then it starts to seep..1200 hours is one helll of a long time, but when my 200K engine in my 62, 15 window started seeping I knew it was true.
