John C\'s Supersquish Pistons
Hey Gang, just wanted to fill y'all in on John C's hi teck Supersquish Pistons.
They're unlike any you've ever seen...they're SQUARE! LOL
Actually, they have a special shape to the top which creates the Squish/Swirl effect. As the saying goes "the devil's in the details"
and these are some satanic slugs lemme tell you! True forged construction, wrist pin oiling, undercut skirts (to reduce mass, drag,
and increase crank counterweight clearance etc.) neat-o-riffic grooves around the ring lands as well as between them (shh, secret...)
You can check them out by going here http://aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproduc ... 0280539486 (you may need to copy and paste that link)
Haven't run them yet, but I have more faith in John than I do in any religious deity (me is a Heathen!)

And your point is??? I didn't mention anything John didn't want disclosed. Notice that I said NOTHING about the secret shape of the piston top.
Can't please everyone. At least John's trying to develop new products for aircooled VW's and should he also raise the state of the art in the process so much the better.
May I ask what YOU'VE contributed?

Hi ANT,
When do you plan to stick them in? Please keep us updated on your findings.
PS: I should have some soon too!

Hi Grommet, don't have a specific date, but sure as hell wanna get this mutha humming by July. Am also building a engine stand from a bus bellhousing so's I can break it in and make adjustments before installation.
Wait'll you receive your set, they're top quality. Take a real close look at them and you'll see what I'm talking about--the details I mean.
Piss on any of the crabby buttmunches out there who are quick to criticize something. Their mouths shoot off about as quick as their johnsons! LOL

Money.
Have you contributed anything more than that, or do you assume other people's contributions once you attain ownership of their product? I realize you probably don't fit under the latter, but you have a neat way of diverting the target of my quip away from you and onto other people.
I didn't attack John or his product, and no, you can't please everyone; welcome to the forum!
FWIW, let us know how the engine turns out!

Hi Stripped 66, I've contributed more than just money, I've stepped up to the plate by supporting other's efforts to develop new
products.
Aren't we all tired of hearing the lament about how there are so few new current-tech gizmos available for aircooled VW's? Well it seems (no personal slam intended) that when something eventually does come out then those same people seldom buy the item in question.
If I came off as defensive, it's because there have been some really derisive attacks against these pistons specifically. So it
seemed to me that perhaps that was were you were coming from. Hope I was wrong, it appears that I was.
It's amazing to me how people can dismiss a new device or technology out of hand--closed minds and all. I've been a professional
mechanick for a quarter of a century and am the first to admit that there's no way I know everything--yet I STILL have an open mind to new things. Most scientists will concur that when speaking of the laws of physics that their knowledge of them are is in flux. "As we UNDERSTAND them" is the operative phrase.

I have a set also!
The grooves are for anti-detonation purposes.

I am saving up for a set of these as well. I was going to buy a 84 crank and new rods and up my 2165 to 2332 but these seem like better bang for the buck. I can't wait for people to tell me engine will explode running 94mm pistons at 12 to 1 on pump gas in a type 3....gasp!
What cylinders are you guys (or does John recommend) using with these pistons. Do you have to buy a set of Mahles and eat the pistons?

I bought a set of Mahle P&C's and of course no need for the stock 94 slugs. Sure would like to find a way to buy just the barrels!

PS I don't understand why so many people end up building 1176 or 1835's when it costs almost exactly the same to make a 1914 (machine work, parts etc) The 1914 is the largest pratical engine which used the stock stroke crank. When you get into strokers you'll find you need cubic money!

HeadsUp Performance sells them for about $250 and $300 cut to your specific length. They come .800" longer than stock cylinders.

Stealth,
you know any more info on the Century Cylinders? I'd like to find a set with the 94-sized outter diameter, but with a custom inner diameter (specifically, 92.5mm ID). Too lazy to go look myself, was wondering if you knew.

The Century Cylinders are only available for 94mm bore. The are exact copies of Cima cylinders only longer. Custum stuff can be gotten from Autocraft or Pauter.
