Sorry for the cross-post if anyone is reading this again, but hopefully I am reaching a larger audience. Anyway, does anyone know of a website that details the installation of a t4 oil cooler into a t1 engine? Or can you explain to me how to do it in words? Thanks in advance.

T4 oil cooler into T1instructions?
I have the issue of hotVW's or Trends that has that tech artical, but I can't find it. If I remember right all you do is cut the dog house part off and extend it using new sheet metal or some from another housing. Hope this helps.

T4 oil cooler into T1instructions?
How close does the T4 cooler get to the fire wall?
T4 oil cooler into T1instructions?
The cooler on my car is less than 5mm from the firewall, but never touches.
I cut the back off the doghouse, laid the cooler into the recess and laid the doghouse piece back on top, I then measured the gap about 15-20mm, add a little more say 5mm. Weld in a strip to allow the cooler to fit.
The next piece is bit that is triangular in shape, extend this to match the new doghouse.
Finally the exhaust shoot that goes thru' the tinware. I open up the top to fit on the new doghouse assembly, I didn't enlarge this shoot anywhere else except the piece the pushes up to the triangular bit. This ensured it went thru' the rear tinware correctly and I didn't need to modify it.
Get some 6mm studding, and cut some new studs for the cooler bracket.
I hope that makes sense.

>>>Berg has a kit to do this<<<
the berg kit i got didn't fit real well on the fuel injected fan shroud i installed it on... the bends in the sheet metal didn't match for squat, where it went around the circular part of the fan housing.
if at all possible, i'd say just cut up an old shroud as core material to add to your new shroud... at least with the berg kit, they provide you with a rough pattern, and you don't have to weld, but i had to use rtv and a couple of big sheet metal screws to get it all rounded up... too half-#@!^% for what i spent on the kit.
when installing these things, it is mission-critical to make sure that there are no air leaks anywhere, and that the shroud fits tightly over the oil cooler... of course, you have to stick foam onto any doghouse type 1 oil cooler before installing the shroud, or air will escape around it.
you also must attach the sealing frame to the cooler, because it helps to hold the shroud to the cooler... but with the type 4 cooler under the type one shroud, the factory sealing frame(aka hoover bit) won't fit at all.
i fabbed a new sealing frame out of aluminum angle stock; using a sealing frame pins the shroud down so that it's further away from the firewall... i overclearanced my firewall way too much, but the cooler conversion wouldn't fit without some degree of clearancing.
