Broken tangs on brake adjuster

Is there a fix for this besides a new backing plate?

Ive read that it wont hurt anything if they are broken off and I have also heard of ppl making new ones out of thin sheet metal and then using a small screw attaching it back to the original spot. I broke a few of mine and no issues.

if the stars are well lubricated, they may loosen up over time. That's what the tang is there for to prevent. I have driven without the tangs for years, and only once in a blue moon needed to go adjust them due to looseness. (more than the ones that were intact)

Mine broke off too. It looked to be that the spring sat in the slot and the edges were peened in to hold it in place. I cleaned it up and just tack welded them back on. Seems ok.

hahahaha... they've been available for years, so I just opened a couple suppliers' sites and searched "brake adjuster".. .knew I'd find it... got it on the second one...

I was all over CIP1

I finally got some parts from California Imports, and in my order was a couple of the so called "Brake Adjusters". In their discription, "Welding Needed". No so for me. On the rear backing plates, I had one where both ends were broken off near the offset, and on the other rear, only one side was broken off.
What I did to remove the first broken piece, was use a small nail set to drive out the remaining piece. Surprisingly, it came right out with a few sharp taps with the hammer. Once I cleaned the area I could see that all I had to do was slide my new part under the pinged area, which was the side nearest the backing plate, and tap down on the opposite side.
It snapped in place with the first tap. It's nice and tight, and will not move. I am sure it will do it's job keeping the star adjusters in place.

I'll tackle the other side tommorow.

You can see where one of the broken adjuster was after I removed it.

It's funny that this post came up, I just did the same to 2 backing pates for a friends car.
