The baja build is back underway and is damn near done!
here are a few shots from last week while the rear suspension was being set up, and the rear cage being built..
now my motor is hanging off the back and the bumper is underway.
with a fox 2.5 14" travel shock and race ported/race caged 930's and 24" SAW axles its gettin 20" rear travel to full bottom.. wich is pictured above.
things are lookin good. its gone from a half done dream car to damn near race car in the past few weeks.. soon i will have her back home and spray some paint on it and maybe even get it dirty this summer!
the metal work is gettin done by Chris at his shop, Unlimited performance motorsports, he is doing a fantastic job and i would recommend him to anyone in my area.
the arms are 6X4" A arms that use the stock vw IRS pivot, and that heim you see where the spring plate end cap once was.
69Bajakid, glad to see this work of art back on the rack so to speak. This was the first ride that I saw when I joined the STF crew, keep it up and keep us posted.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
The rad came with the motor when i bought the car...im not sure what its from exactly, most of the VW rads i see dont have filler caps..maybe a fox? it would take no time to figure it out if you really want to know..i can get the info for you.
i wish chris would be decent enough to throw a damn tarp or something over that tranny when i come to his shop! seems that all the guys that wanna play hard ball out here are running mendiolia (sorry im sure i spelt that wrong) trannys.. thats next on my list:) might take a few years though., but ya i will tell him you will put it to good use and even pay the shipping..hell its just sittin there.
Some more shots... the pedals were to be hung but just could not make them fit worth a damn with the steering the way it is and wanting to not totally chop up the front firewall.. I know the block is an ugly color but it looked good in the can! im gonna change that..and the trashed white rear fire wall is getting cut out and a nice rolled edge steel peice welded inplace
and a few shots of the home brew exhaust. i had a tri mill header but it was not looking very good on the car.. it was ment for a vertical mounted motor..mines on 15° i think.. needed to keep the carbs level.. a fair trade i say.
And ya its still running a fresh 3 rib. maybe it will last a day..maybe not. i have been warned..next chunk of cash will get me a tranny. i have 3 spares now so i should do ok for a few days
i will post more pics as i get them. thanks for the look.
anyone have any ideas of what color i should paint this car? im thinkin some bright new lotus paint kinda deal.. make it looks fast.. but maybe not? keep it dark? i want to paint the cage one color and the body another
Cale, good to see you back at it. I, too, had the issue with the pedals and it seemed the best was to section into the tunnel to make everything fit. Baja is looking good. We need to wrap these things up and give Dave's arms a whirl. Ended up sending a couple of people his way... once again, thanks for the tip.
the motor is a "hybrid" Vw motor.. 1993 ABA 2.0L tall block with a NOS 1985 solid lifter head intended 1.8L CIS car.. lots of work has gone into the head..the block is pretty much stock.. running 11.0:1 CR.
Ya i am actually feeling like i might get to drive this car soon, we should hook up one day and go put the arms to the test.. im gonna have to make some baja friends soon. multi-baja off roading trip would be a riot!
