What are the different types of metal that can be welded together?
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

I saw a standard/proceedure for welding AL and steel together. I didn't think it could be done.

There are a lot of types of welding that most of us haven't heard of. How about explosive welding. I saw a proceedure for that too.

That is why I started this post. I also heard of welding steel and aluminium together from a certified welder.

My Grandmother was a welder during WWII at a plant that made fuel tanks for aircraft. They were aluminum tanks with steel AN fittings that she welded in. I wish I had been more intrested in welding at the time she was trying to teach me befor she passed on. Any way I have welded mild steel with stainless filler, with oxy / act torch.

mild carbon steel and stainless is common. I think its 308 rod one would use to mix the two. (did it before)

But Aluminum to steel, i would have to guess that they would be brazed together, and not actual mix of metals like welding does.

But thats only a guess on my part.

Granny was involved in welding her whole adult life after the war, she was into the artsy side of metal work. She said welding so I'm sure she meant it. I have also heard Kent White of TM technologies talk about it as well. Both of the above were refering to gas welding but I found a little about it using GMAW.

"Results

Bimetal joints of steel and aluminum can be produced with specially modified GMAW, using pure argon as the shielding gas. In experiments, the static strength of these joints was proven to be good. When the specimens failed, it was because of shear tension in the HAZ of the aluminum base metal.

Additionally, initial fatigue tests have shown that the strength of these joints readily bears comparison with that of welded all-aluminum joints.

We weld alot of dissimiliar mateal at work steel to stainless,stainless to nickel alloys.

for steel to say 304 sometimes it's 309,steel to nickel alloys or nickel to stainless is mostly inco82.

It all depends on the customers specs and requirments and so on.
