How do I replace/repair alternator internal regulator?

After taking out the entire alternator together with the fan attached from the fan housing… Is it necessary to detach the fan blade as well before I can access the internal regulator for repair/replacement?

Where exactly is the internal regulator located inside the alternator?

Any feedback appreciated thanks

Depends on the model.
The internally regulated Motorola have a white brick on top that just un-bolts.

The early internally regulated Bosch have a top loaded regulator that un-bolts from the steel cover.

The much more common Bosch type has a rectangular regulator that can be removed by either separating the housing or possibly from the small fan side. Not sure, but the fan will have to come off.

HELP!!!!
Problem:

After changing the bearing and fixing it back there seems to be a GAP between the front alternator plate and I am not sure if it is orginally like that or not?

Can anyone confirm that the GAP is normal?

Notes:
Replacing the regulator is a stright forwared affair, just like "sideshow" said: "After removing the fan side cover", you will get to see the Bosch regulator with the part number. I manage to buy an original Bosch regulator for $25 and at the same time I replaced the 2 bearing on both end of the alternator (that's where I got into some problem...described above).

Do know overall vdub theory inside and out..

Your pix shows something that's not mated right OR something missing.

Don't force it.. dubs are precision pieces.
