930 Stub axle and CV's

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

930 Stub axle and CV's

Post by kcnaz »

Ok I am reaching out into the dark side blindly here so be kind. This STICKY thread "930 Stub axle and CV's" has no info posted to it, or my browser can't find it.......so here goes.
will 930 stub axles and drive flanges accept the 934 cv?
What is max angle for 930's? What is the axle spline count?

I just had a digital protractor on my 930 shaft. Kinda hurt at first but they "felt good" @ 26.6. Typical from what I remeber is 25. Depends on prep. Mine are "race prep", but that term is in the eye ot the prepper. I limit @ 26. Speaking of which my straps are streched out and it reminds me to check them prior to each trip. I"ll double check in the morn that is what I have and I will try to count the spliney things. I do know there are alota em.
I edited my angle. they are sitting at the 26.6 mark now after the bus trans swap. Wheels spin free with no clicking.

The 934 CV's are much bigger and don't have near the angle that 930's do.

Still looking for answers.

Also added this thread to the 930 info thread, thanks for bringing this up Keith.

930 axles are 28 spline, 934 are 33 spline. A 934 CV will not fit a 930 flange and visa-versa.

As mentioned CV angles are determined by HP and prep. Out of the box german 930 CV's should be good to 25* max.

Zancat, thanks for the info. In my opinion key word is should, not to often does it happen though.

Computer tip: if you press the alt key while holding it down type 0176 you will get the ° symbol.

My Mahle (German) right out of the box click at 22°. I plan to work on them just a tad to see what happens. I have a 5 rib and 3x3's.

I still think thats the only certain way to tell how far your CV's will go. Let them carefully droop and feel them. It is pretty obvious when they are done and when they are happy. And remember.......straps strech so check often as so your not suddenly chewing them up.

Was that a verticle measurement or absolute total angle?

See the down and swept back angle thread......
