Curious about that dipstick adaption, Angelo. Any other pics of it, or how you pulled that off?
After about .. oh, six years of planning/hoping/wanting to do a T4 in my '70 Fastback, it looks like it's finally happening. Picked up an engine from a '78 Bus this morning at the wreckers that looks to have less than 20k miles on it .. and not a GEX rebuild either.

dipstick
nothing adapted here, just the standard CJ type motor dipstick.
is a bit of a squeeze to get it in/out but you don't check oil every day for a weekend car.

Re: a few more pics...
.. it sure *looks* like the stock T3 filler/dipstick has been connected to the Bus filler. Just for adding oil?Angelo Amato wrote:

Re: dipstick
Cool, that's what I wasn't clear about. Looks like the stock T3 dipstick bellows connecting the two bits, but knowing how rigid the stock T3 stick is .. wasn't sure if it'd been deleted or if you'd found a flexible one that works.
Thanks
Thanks

Just thought I would add this to this thread dedicated to T-3 to T-4 conversions. This is a printable template for the base for modifying T-3 bellows tin so they will adapt to a T-4 motor. It's to scale and requires 11X17 paper to print in one sheet. It can be printed in two 8.5X11 sheets. Regardless of what paper size you use, be sure "scaling" is turned OFF.

Piledriver gets the credit for scanning it to PDF format and getting it to the correct scale. Thanks Pile!! Hope this helps. . .

Nate, email me the PDF file and I'll host it on my site and link it in the T3->T4 tech article. That way everyone can access it who's contemplating this nice conversion.aircooledtechguy wrote:Just thought I would add this to this thread dedicated to T-3 to T-4 conversions. All
Posting has slowed down for this thread, so I am releasing it and letting it move down the board and make room for new stickeys.
I have also added a link to this thread in the "FAQ" stickey for future reference.

I have a type 4 engine from a 412 Variant. The dipstick is in the back, close to the oil filler tube, but only the latter will ~ fit the tube in the car. Will i be able to check the oil level using a short dipstick and the existing tube?
Is there any chance that the type of oil filler mounted on the breather (type 4 fastback?) does fit in a type 3 under the decklid without shortening?

Re: Best Type III Conversion Factory Parts
I'm using the stock 914 set up in mine. My 71 Square-vert has a 72-73 EA case 1.7L 914 engine in it, with t-4 D-jet FI. The 914 case isn't drilled for an external dipstick down in the right corner. Pics can be seen in the Samba gallery under Bobnotch in the Squareback section. Sorry I don't have a direct link to them.
