Is there much difference between a Magfire other wise known as Accufire, Compufire, or a Pertronix other than the price. I just burned the Pertronix out and I am thinking about replacing it with a less expensive brand. Anyone ever try the Accufire (Magfire) before?

I was looking at CIP's selection, and they mention that the Pertronix was made in usa, and the cheaper one was made somewhere else, but at half the price. I'm debating whether to spend extra. Hopefully it should last a "lifetime" so maybe the it's worth it.

I've never been too impressed with my Pertronix, or the Compufire. The Bug ran better with points but I use the Pertronix because points don't work so well with MegaSquirt.

As soon as I save up for EDIS hardware, the Pertronix is going up on EBAY. Or the trash.

All it does is replace the points, no big deal, as long as it works. I've had one on my wife's 65 bug for the last few years and it's nice not to file, or replace points, and adjust the timing as they wear.

How old is your Pertronix? Do you still have the receipt? Take it back to where you bought it, they will send it back to Pertronix, Pertronix will replace it.

I had one go bad, it was sent back, Pertronix replaced it for free, the new one's been in my car 2 years now, they provide good customer service.

It won't hurt to try.

please understand that replacing points with an electronic, optical or magnetic PICKUP should not be confused as a true electronic ignition. The reason these cute little maint free toys go out is because they are carrying the load of the coil. If you really want to never mess with your ignition again, put in a true electronic CDI type ignition and say goodbye to ignition worries.

Also hooking them up backwards will do it.

Yup been there done that before. I burned one up years ago by hooking it up backwards. This one has been hooked up in this car for about two years now so I know it was hooked up correctly. I decided to try the less expensive Accufire. I have heard they work just fine and they are half the price.
