hi, i have a question...
i had my car idling in the driveway today and oil was flowing in a steady stream from in between the #1 valve cover and the head. ive never had this happen to me. does anyone know what it could be...and how to fix it. it is a rebuilt engine with new heads and the gasket there is new too. any help would be greatly appreciated. thankyou

Do you have bolt on valve covers? If so, they have a reputation for leaking.
If you're using stock (genuine VW) check to make sure the valve cover gasket is/was properly seated. Is it glued in to the valve cover? If not, suddenly snapping the throttle shut with the engine revved up could cause the gaskets to get pulled loose even on a fresh rebuild.

check the valae cover gaskit, could have moved when the valve cover was put on. If not that maybe pushrod tube seal.

Also, cheap Tiawan valve covers and bails will leak. Look for some German parts. What size is the motor? Are the valve covers vented to relieve crankcase pressure? It's not usually necessary on a stock motor, but you may be building pressure, pushing the covers outward or sucking the gaskets in. Get good German parts, glue the gasket in and vent the v/c's if you have a bigger than stock motor. Good luck!
