Oil Temp from those of you on the road...

I have a 911 combo gauge with oil temp and pressure gauges. My 2.1L runs about 180 to 210 degrees all the time. It has hit 220 degrees at an Autocross when it was 80-85 degrees out. I haven't run at 80mph all day long yet, 70-75 mph for 2-3 hours is as fast as I have gone except for a few bursts up to 115mph.

Has anyone out there fitted a temp guage and sender from a 911 to their 914/4?
I have the 914 instrument panel screwed upto the underneath of the dashboard at present (temporary) and am running a 911 temp gauge which doesn't have any numbers on it.
The engine I'm running is a T4 2-litre with twin 40's.
What temperature do your cars run at on the gauge at 80pmh?

Hello

The 914/4 sender should not be mixed with the 911 instrument as it reads a different temperature.

The instruments have little marks refering to 100°c to set/check the sensors.

I was under the impression that all VDO senders and guages are preset to the same values... so long as they are mounted in the same place.
I know that the rev counter is different (6 cyl to 4 cyl) but oil temp should be the same.
Oh... I'm using the 911 temp guage with a golf GTi oil temp guage which JMR uses as a good piece of kit with an aftermarket VDO Oil temp gauge.

Bleyseng... where is your oil temp sender mounted and what is the sender from?

The stock 914 oil temp sender and gauge are very definitely different ranges from the aftermarket VDO stuff. I am told that the aftermarket VDO gauges are the same range as the stock 911 ones.

To use a 911 gauge, you'll have to pick up a sender that installs in the Type IV engine. VDO does sell at least one that does.

The sender is a 911 part that is matched to the oil temp gauge. It fits into the same spot on the motor as stock. I am using a 911 combo gauge that has oil temp and pressure gauges. I picked it up for cheap ($20) from Paul Weir's. It works nicely other than I use a VDO gas gauge in the center console that isn't too accurate. I am more worried about oil temp and pressure so that's why I switched.

Where on the 914 engine is the temp sender mounted? The same place as the 912E?

It is located on the bottom of the motor using the temp sender plate. I would guess it's the same as the 912E as it's the same motor.
