Fuel pump limits? Bosch 044 (on E85)

Hi,

I'm currently running a single Bosch 044 (real one) on my turbo engine. It's on AN8 from tank, AN8 to the engine, AN6 in the engine bay and AN8 retur to tank.

I'm upgrading my engine a bit during the winter, but nothing that will make another 100hp.. (yet)


But.. Should I also get my second 044 mounted? I'm thinking dual AN8 feeds from the bottom of the tank, AN8 "Y" after the pumps to the rear.



Anyone out there with MORE than 400whp on a single 044? Running E85.

New 2200cc injectors should deliver 525liters per hour. A single 044 is around 220 liters per hour..









And yes. I've googled it and all the different forums have different opinions..

You'd fit two pumps anyway and a common -6 return is fine

I’ll probably add the other also. Return line is already in the car, so won’t be changing that..

If you are drag racing...you might consume that much...maybe. But if you are and only producing 400 hp....its running pig rich to do so.
You have no need for two pumps.

You do realize that 525 liters per hour is not actually what the engine is going to use right? I wish people would quit reading injector flow charts like they were a 1:1 ratio of delivery.

If you are going to actually consume 525 L/138 gals per hour in a measly 400 hp engine....something is terribly wrong. The ratings are are for what the injectors COULD flow at MAXIMUM pulsewidth running constantly at maximum pulsewidth. Even with a turbocharged engine...on any fuel injection systems with a loop ....greater than 75% of all fuel running through the ring goes back to the tank because the injectors are pulsing...not just wide open like an ancient CIS system.

At 138 gallons of fuel delivered per hour....thats 2.3 gallons per minute...4.9 ounces per second.

Get a good gauge....plumb it into your ring main. If the fuel pump ....with a volume accumulator.... keeps your fuel pressure stable through all ranges...you have no need for a second pump.

Plenty of 300-400 hp street cars out there and few if any run more than one pump and a feeder for the main.

I run 1000cc injectors at 100% DC, and yes, it's pretty rich.. Fat and happy

I can try without, and see at what HP I would need the second pump.

Wally is probably on of very few on her that has made 400+ and used that pump. He did it with ID1000s, but on 91 octane. I haven't pushed mine that hard yet. But think it should be easily capable of it when I get close to the boost levels you are running, and I run E85 I don't have an 044 in mine though. I have a big Walbro mounted in tank.

The best reason for fitting two pumps is for safety in case the primary pump starts to fail which is highly likely when using E85. Cheap insurance
