STF GTG Eastern Utah Adventure 10-3-17 through 10-8-17

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

The first night of the Nevada trip we were down in a cold sump.

I will be returning to Idaho this coming week. I must choose between the original dates or the later dates and after causing a fuss, to switch again might become more of a chore.

Is Cameron a no go for the original dates?

Can we decide on a definite before the end of this coming week?

Who of the original list is going?

Kyle
Cameron
Patrick
Richard
Brandon
Ed
Tim
Carl? I think he is not up to date on possible date change. Same with bubba or God(speed).

Bo told me the original dates were not good. Can he make the new dates?

Ed Norton has his hug up for sale on KSL, but I know he is working on another one. Not sure of his plans. He has always seemed flexible besides family trips.

Regardless, we will have to make a dedicated effort to communicate the date change because I have been telling all the non-stf'ers the original date.

I vote to put Kyle in charge of the decision because he is the sucker... Ehem, I mean the leader... this year.

As far as green bug, I have a solution with a 95% success rate in my head. I have about 75% confidence that I can accomplish a fix, and the fix will have a 95% confidence of completing the trip [assuming 50% of my welds are serviceable] and about an 80% confidence that I can devote the proper amount of time to the fix and a 40% confidence that it will be dust proof when done. With a little bit of math and a backup plan of farming it out, I'm pretty sure that means I have a 100% chance of being at the starting line and a 87% chance of being at the finish.

I'm here and aware of the date issues. I'm good whenever as long as we pick one and stick with it.

I'll be there with the even littler Jeep.

Either weekend works for me. Just need to know so I can get it on the calendar.

I'd be happier with the later set of dates. Got a couple more weekends of work on the bug, then a month of testing time before Knolls, then three weeks ish until the trip.

Making a lot of progress on routes, BTW. Once I figure out how to hit all the sightseeing stops with time to spare and reasonable mileage, I'll start working on campsites. There are a lot of opportunities for gas and supplies along the way as I'm planning it. I will send out a Google Earth update via email before the end of the week.

I sent Bo and Carl messages asking for their opinions on dates. Carl can do either, prefers earlier, but can do either. Waiting to hear from Bo.

An inventory of everyone's predicted range would be helpful. Is a max of 200 miles reasonable, including jerry cans?

Oh, hey Carl, welcome! Will you talk to Bubba about mileage and dates?

Ed Horton is good with either set of dates. Just setting out feelers with the Baja.

Looks like we have a place to park trucks and trailers in Price. Thanks Carl!

OK, and different from most BOR races, I'm sticking to mostly graded roads.

Thanks Kyle for taking the lead on this. The route is looking good. Lots of cool roads and trails.

T minus 6 days before my Baja goes under the knife. I should have a better idea of outcomes and an updated prognosis in two weeks.

I just wanted to clarify. In email you said Oct 3-8 vs up above where you said "the later dates". Just didn't want any confusion with the "later dates" that Cameron posted. For sake of completeness, when you get a minute, we should change the title of this thread to reflect that change.

I know you are a busy guy with race scouting, planning, permits and this trip and a Baja bug to finish. Just shout and I'm able to help wherever.
