I am wanting to upgrade the ignition on my 1600 engine and unsure which route to go.
Down the road whatever I buy will be transferred to a larger engine I am building very slowly, but until then I want to have fun with it on my 1600.
Future engine will either be a 2056CC type 4 or a 74mm x 92mm Type 1 engine. So nothing too wild.
I have narrowed down my selection to the
Pertronix IGNITOR III http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp ... R-D7182504
OR
CB Performance Magnaspark II http://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/2000.htm
Both are similar prices, but the CB Performance product seems like a better value (coil & wires included).
I understand the difference between both units and the benefits of vacuum advance.
I would just really appreciate some other points of view or experience before I spend the money.
Thanks!

As you understand what vacuum advance is for, that solves which one to buy..
... as the cheap CB units timing is only possibly right at WOT, and will run retarded most of the time.
But...Vacuum cans aren't sufficient if you use a long duration cam, only a programmable setup can hope to work efficiently.
With a big enough cam, even a MAP sensor based unit doesn't work, the load needs calculated from other inputs.
You might as well just buy a Pertronix module and stuff it in a cleaned up, used 009 or better, stock distributor.
At least then you can carry points as a spare if the module dies.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Get the one with the bigger cap, less likely for spark jumping around @ higher rpm's

Like this? Mallory with 460 Ford cap/rotor adapted.
The optical wheel is a 16-1.
I prefer NO cap/rotor tho. LS2 truck coils rock.
