Ceramic Lifters after 10 years of use

Had to rebuild engine after 10 years and 35k miles. The ceramic lifters look better than new. :D Too bad they are not available anymore.

How does the cam lobes look? Pic? I have some in my Type 1 engine.

Cam lobes look like before no change at all. After cleaning all went back to the engine again.

This is exactly my experience as well. I used type 1 ceramics in my type 4 though.

Hi!

There are now press-in bushings available from TP in Germany: http://www.tp-technologie.de/produkte%2 ... n%20en.htm
I've used them-I didn't even heat up the case just pulled them in with a threaded rod and some washers.

Their tool steel lifters are well priced as well, esp with the current US/Euro exchange rates.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Those lifter bushings look tasty, too..

Wonder what the translation of "lifter bores lowered by 7mm" means..

I'm guessing that it means facing so the foot has clearance at lift.. Right?

Thats how I read it
If you have a really high lift cam you still need to check, but you can always cut after the bushings are in, as long as you can also cut for the lifter head lower radius... The bushings likely have that built in.

Camshaft after about 7 years of daily driver use. I was over accelerating the Web 163 with VW 1.25 rockers.


There really is no point taking a picture of the lifters, they appear to be unused.


Looking at the lift it appears to be still there, pointy part is flat on top with no taper but I think that is normal.


One of my better ideas was to take a cut off tool to the then brand new metal leve mains, looking at the oil stain.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.
