Stripping paint

I am stripping several layers of paint off the bug body and was wondering what you suggest? I would like to strip the whole body and dipping or blasting isn't a option.

Spray on Aircraft Paint Stripper might help... otherwise, those paint remover wheels that look like hard open pore sponges, work really well... they even remove bondo pretty good. They also come in different "grit" types.

I like the 3M bristle disc.

Do they strip or grind any metal away? Body is thin enough, don't want to make any thinner as I have A LOT of welding to do on the skin. Thanks for the info guys!

That all depends on the "grit" that you purchase. I k now that with the bristle discs, the finest ones will only remove corrosion, and not even paint when used on aluminum.
just like Scotchbrite discs, where the grey will not even remove paint, but the gold/brown will go through steel.

When I stripped my bug back in the late 90s I used a strait up angle grinder with cup brushes and a a few disks. The cup brushes made easy work. I had about 3 layers of paint too. Important part to remember, don't just use a plain primer on the first coat to the metal, it needs to be a self etching primer or an epoxy primer. Then you can build up with some high build primer after that.
