So last week my O2 sensor finally died. It had been giving suspect readings for a while and I finally replaced it.
Anybody know of a way to de-soot this thing?

Yeah, tune your engine!
Seriously though, you could try doing the same thing we used to do to 2-stroke spark plugs, pop it on the range top (gas flame) and try burning it out. Probably won't work though, good thing they are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

I sprayed off one of mine with carburetor cleaner and it went from not reading very accurately to not reading at all. Ever again. So, don't try that.

EGO Sensor Cleaning
The EGO Sensor is made by NGK, a sparkplug manufacturer.
Many times I have extracted the element to show this to my users.
They stated that it "looked like a sparkplug".
The fellow repliers above stated your should tune well, the EGO will become clean and operate.
One other method would be to install the sensor in a WELL TUNED running engine.
The sensor will become clean by the heat created from the hot exhaust, burned off.
