Oil Shocks

Last March I put a set of new Cofap oil shocks on my 68 squareback. Worked fine, nice feel.

Over the last few weeks the right front has started making a squeaking noise, particularly in the cold. I don't ever remember this happening with Boges. The local VW shop says he can't get any other oil shock except Cofaps any more.

So I'm looking for a source for Boges, or any other suitable oil shock.

Are you sure it's the shocks? I have had way to many cars do that in the cold. Check all the bushings, rubber shock mounts ect. Try some WD40 on the upper and lower parts.

I disconnected the upper end of the right shock and gave it a bounce. Noise gone. It's the shock.

KYB-GR2 shocks are a good, reasonably priced oil shock. I have them currently on my Square and I'm happy with them.

Monroe makes oil shocks for the T3 front app, Supa found them.
(think they are mentioned in his thread, ~any FLAPS can get them, I got mine from Oreillys IIRC as my local one had them in stock)

Lifetime warranty, made in the USA, amazingly cheap and and work well..
If they ever die I go get a new set from my FLAPS.

GR2s are low pressure gas shocks, and probably not a bad choice, but they list the same one for front and rear, probably not optimal if you think about it.

Monroematics front and GR2s out back would probably be a ~perfect combo.
I still have gas-a-justs on the back and it works, but a bit harsh out back.

I had Gas-a-justs front and rear as a gift from the PO and it was a near-dental-filling removing experience on choppy surfaces.

I've run the GR2s before on my type-1s and the type-3. Too stiff for my taste.

I was able to order some Boge's from ISP. In the next day or so, I'll know if they actually have them to ship. Fingers crossed.

The Monroes are much softer than the GR2s.

Bilstein makes a lighter-valved model for front and a heavier one for the rear of a Type III, but the either-end offering that most makers have is fine on the front.

It did. I have other squeaks, but the saches / boges have been quiet.
