The angle won't be wrong because you still look at the correct TDC mark on the pulley from the same plane as how you would originally set the timing. It is not skewed to the left or right. The pictures don't show it too clearly. I'll try and get better pics.
Mounting the sensor at another location is a way around that. I've looked at many places, but not much places that offer a lot of room and a clear view for mounting and adjustment. I did mines this way because it was easy access to everything for install, adjustment, and visual checks.
If you look closely, you can see the hole in the fan shroud that allows a viewable access to the pulley to allow timing. In this picture you can't see the pulley, but it is def viewable and timing can be adjusted easily.

Any experience with higher revs? The typ3 fan-construction is not famous for withstanding very high rpms. Your triggerwheel is far away from the last crankbearing and a imbalance at this place maybe very bad.

Not yet, I haven't had a chance to fully install my FI. I don't think 4 45mm throttle bodies would do well on a 1641cc engine. I'm waiting to build up a larger 2 liter motor for the FI install. Almost everything is ready on my car though. Megasquirt, wiring harness, VR sensor, and trigger wheel are installed though. No problems with my 1641cc engine revving to 4500 rpm. My existing motor isn't setup for anything higher.
The design of the trigger wheel is balanced. If you want to take it a step further (which I would recommend), you should have the wheel and pulley balanced together. After installation of the trigger wheel onto the pulley, a very small amount was needed to be removed from the pulley to have it dynamically balanced. I'm sure this was because an uneven amount of metal was removed during the tapping process. The amount removed was very very little so It prolly won't make a difference.
looking at the sensor, it is to short to mount it the way I did. You could however mount it at the opposite end (bottom) of the shroud. It'll be pretty hard to do and it'll be close to the header.
Did a mock up of the trigger wheel and VR sensor tonight. Now that I know everything fits and works as they should, I'll go and get everything powder coated to make pretty pretty. Here are some pics:
