Off Road Squareback
Hey guys,
I recently purchased a square and am planning on building it for on and offroad use. The PO had already jacked the suspension up and put on some larger snow tires, but it didnt have a motor or much of an interior.
Here are some pics:
I have a pile of parts that were stripped off of a fuel injection type 3 motor that I will use to convert a type 1 to a type 3
And here is a shot next to my other VW a 71 baja.

Does anyone have a diagram of how to hook up a fuel injection controller? I want to get started on the engine this weekend.

Yup, going slowly as wrap up some other projects but I'm still working on it. In August I'm going to get the rest of the parts for it (finally) and then I can really dive into it.

don't you ahve an eggplant to drive once or twice first?
Yeah, I think so too. gonna talk to my uncle about temp storage this weekend, may need to rent the official ACORN tow vehical along with a uhaul in a few weeks to bring home my christmas present to myself. It's in my price braket so it can only be soo good, but some rust proofing behind a few panels, some paint, and I may have a SCCAA contender. worst case I need to throw in a good cage to make it solid, then I have an even better SCCAA contender. I wonder if I can cut the fender wells to fit 31s on the weekends for NH romps with my bus current motor, then swap in stock rims/tires and motor to rally it. maybe would need a weight penalty to make up for the missing metal, but the rest of it could remain stock. I could flog on this for a few year while I make the perfect westy for myself...
if i do pick this thing up (ok, when ) it will be atleast a year before i can dig into it.
oh btw, sneaks do you or anyone you know have interest in a 83 BMW r65 ls?

The tow vehicle I'm sure can be arranged. If you can't get temp storage elsewhere, bat your eyes at Deb and I'm sure we can find room.

Was wondering where this project stands now. I'm looking at doing a square off road buggy -using an existing ghia/buggy chassis and a pretty decent square shell that I already have. Kind of looking to this build for inspiration.

A Ghia/Buggy Pan (or Chassis as you put it) is to narrow to fit under A type-3 squareback

The "Ghia" is already caged out. It is running a bus trans & front beam with ghia backbone and minimum body panels. I'll just be modifying it to mount the squareback shell and making new floor/pan panels to keep my feet up off the ground.

Well that's alot less than a Karmann Ghia
But Ya you could certenly put a Square boudy on that after all the stock wheel bases are the same so all you would have to do is fab up some body mounts and clearence some room for those paddles
