Myth busted!

Long story short....

Today I tested one of those "Junk chrome 36HP shrouds" and it beat everything we have tested so far, including my shroud and the DTM!

I blew my oil cooler on the dyno 3/4 way through the run so I'll have to back it up tomorrow. The cell temp was already up to stable, and the humidity had dropped so things were flattened out. The extra 5 min of run time probably would have shown no difference but I need the numbers for averages since its so close to the stocker.

I'm still out to beat it, but its pretty discouraging when what is thought to be the worst, ends up being the best so far..

Before you ask me where I got it from, all I have to say is this sucker is getting a few small mods to make it better and I'll be selling them! I gotta get something out of this huge investment that has so far proven my shroud not to work very well........

Since the stock shroud is doing so good look for an upgrade kit to come from all this testing for it... Just a few rivet in deflectors can REALLY make it hard to beat!

Wow that's surprising. Was that with one that was new and the vanes haven't started falling out yet? Well I guess you give it back to OS now. LOL Thanks for all your hard work/testing and giving honest data to all of us. Tim

No kidding!

This test was with stock cylinder tins painted black! This was the only chrome part on the engine.

I guess I'll just have to send this sucker to my waterjet cutter and have him split it in half precisely... Then copy the vanes and pull a mold off of the two halves- Then make it out of carbon fiber!

This is absolutely amazing!

Talking about disgusted! I'm about to puke!

tomorrow I'm testing all the other stock systems with different drive ratios/fans /flaps/thermostat and etc.

Jake did this use the 36horse oil cooler too? or just the external?

36 HP STYLE, with the stock doghouse cooler....

This is a 69.95 Taiwanese chrome part, with no modifications- It has beat EVERYTHING so far.

Now I am sooo confused. Have you tested the stock doghouse with flaps and Tstat? I don't like chrome but I do like the 36hp shroud... cant wait to see what you work out with it and the DTM.

I thought it was going to be like all the other aftermarket junk.

Tomorrow I have 12 tests outlined for stock systems with various parts and combinations installed/removed.

Then this part of the testing will be done and its time to do some road testing with the systems to back it all up.

would have never in 10,000 years believed this would happen! It took me 50 changes to get my system within 20% of this thing!

FYI, none of the other 36HP styles did this- only one! The others had MORE vanes than this one!! Vnes don't mean a damn thing unless their shape is correct-

hey jake will you be testing the 911 shrouds on the TI. and are you testing that carerra 4cam shroud? would be interesting to see if a $70 chrome 36hp shroud would outperform those with mods.

The Carrera shroud has not been sent to me yet. This testing will have to be more in depth and will require many more test sessions than the two weeks we have given it.

The answer is YES, I have 4 911 style shrouds to test against each other but I'm waiting on a Bergmann unit before I do them. That will probably be the next series of tests in around 2 mnths after we make some serious DTM changes. I have the opening of SCCA season coming up soon and my Porsche customers are beating me up to get them on the track.

As for honesty:
the reason I'm doing this is to prove things. Lying would only hurt what I'm doing more than helping it. If I were gonna lie I wouldn't tie up the shop for 2 weeks- I'd just write some posts and that would be it.

In all my travels, working on aircraft, getting shot at by small arms fire, having 3 in flight emergencies and going around the world twice- nothing has blew my mind more than this testing, and this last result......
