Which Dizzy?

Post by PugBug »

I have an 09 on a 2 litre 914 engine with dual dells. I scounged up a 1.7 litre engine from a fuel injected 914, and was wondering if there was any way I could use the distributor from it?
It has a vacuum can on it with two ports. Boch # 0231-174-005
VW# 022-905-205F.

Or should I just use the 09 for now and order a Mallory?

I would go ahead and use the 205F dizzy, it's advance curve is much closer to what your engine needs than the 009 curve. Connect the outside port on the vacume can to the Dell's, you can leave the inside port which is for vacume retard open. Before installation of the 205F I would inspect it carefully and make sure the advance is working properly.

You should still buy the Mallory though, they are an amazing dist.

Until you but the Mallory you want, the fuel injected distributor will work just fine. It is well made and has an excellent curve. Ray

In checking the 250F I discovered that the vacuum can is kaput, so I put a can off of an svda I have. It was on a 72 auto stick. It seems to have about the same travel and fits perfectly.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work? Also I am hoping that I can run it on one vacuum port on a 45 Dell, as only one has a port.

The 09 is terrible! The degree marks jump all over the place so badly I just had to guess at the timing. I have to do it with a mirror which makes it harder still. I don't have this problem with the dune buggy, as it has an SVDA, and the marks are very steady.

No hurry. I drove it for about an hour yesterday The new oil cooler worked great. Oil temps good. It was rush hour....so lots of stop and go.
But unfortunately there was a big puddle of oil under the bell housing this morning so I'll be pulling the engine and replacing some seals.

I looked at the Pelican site, and it looks like it will be a snap! I love all the info available on the web!!!
