Narrowed Trailing Arms
Narrowed Trailing Arms
Stock trailing arms have about 1.5-2 deg of negative camber built in. As you lower an IRS car the camber will increase. I have measured as much as -5 deg. of camber on a severely lowered car. When I make the arms I take out this factory pre-camber and weld them straight up. When you do lower it, you will still have 1-2 deg of neg camber, which is what I have on my car. With my 225/50s, there is 8.5" of rubber in contact with the ground, and I have found that beyond 1.5-2 deg of neg camber you will wear out such a wide tire on the inside. My tires wear evenly. The camber can be influenced by altering the relationship between the trailing arm's mounting tab and the spring plate it bolts to.

Narrowed Trailing Arms
Hi
I just thought I would tell you all what i plan to do to combat the track increase when I fit 944 brakes to my bug. I have been talking off the forum with graeme86 about this.
First of all I cant take a track increase on my bug so I plan to use the 944 splined drive flange, machine the back off it until it allows my 944 brake rotors to fit with no track increase. What about the handbrake you ask? Well Im going to use some Willwood mechanical calipers for the handbrake and have a custom bracket made to mount both the brake and handbrake caliper.
Regards Steve C
