911 alternator alternate ?
I wondered if you guys had seen or done a conversion using another style of alternator in place of the Porsche alternator but still using the fan and shroud etc? I have a Motorola one now with an external regulator .

I have also wondered about this myself. I would think somebody out there has done at least one at some point. Maybe a high output GM 1-wire alternator in place of the Porsche one? Porsche hi amp alternators aren't too cheap

Re: 911 alternator alternate ?
so you buy that plate, then buy a golf alternator, and fit it to your fan and ring and shroud?

Re: 911 alternator alternate ?
What plate?>dead link/closed auction.
Post pictures, preferably with DIMENSIONS.
Bosch and Motorola are not the only manufacturers of alternators, there are literally thousands on choices.
(just as an example, no idea if it will work in this app)
The GM CS130D I picked up new from my local FLAPS was $129, and carries a lifetime warranty.
(as long as you own the vehicle, in my case, usually a bad move on their part)
That model/type is still being used in current model year AFAIK, and is as common as salt, and comes in many mounting configurations.
Has the same shaft size etc as the late Vanagon alt I was planning on using,(I used the larger Vbelt Vanagon pulley, as the included serp belt wasn't happening) has dual internal fans, double row+ large sealed bearings on either end, and will put out >rated current ~13.4v for as long as I had patience to test. It's also considerably smaller and ideally suited to a vehicle running EFI, due to the PWM internal voltage regulator and diode packs designed for that purpose.
Something smaller can be made bigger/adapted easier than the reverse, at least in this case.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

If you are looking for fuel economy or cooling, many of the 911 fan setups lose vs. stock T1, even non-doghouse..andy198712 wrote:true, i dont understand why it hasnt been done.

(for cooling uniformity) you also want to keep a working thermostat.
