Porsche 944 or 928 spindles

Post by buggpower »

I read in one of the forums they were interchangeable with the superbeetles, but can they work on a standard 72 bug?If they can, will they work with the stock drums with the 4-130 bolt pattern?I know they make 2.5" drop spindles but im told they wont clear my front 13x5.5" wheels. And I was told that just running and adjustable beam an lowering it the full 4" is unsafe.
If needed, I'm planning on either running a 175/60/13 or a 175/70/13 up front.
the 175/60/13 is 21.3" tall in height
the 175/70/13 is 22.7" tall in height.
The reason for lowering 4" unless i dont need to lower it that much to get a 1" gap between the fender lip and tire.
Thanks for any info.

Porsche 944 or 928 spindles will not fit any aircooled standard VW that I know of. However, 944 front HUBS can be machined to accept VW wheel bearings, which can then be mounted to VW spindles. You would then have to use 944 rotors and calipers for the front brakes as well as a porsche 5 X 130 wheel. The VW spindles would also have to be machined to accept the Porsche caliper or an adapter can be fabricated to mount the Porsche caliper onto the VW spindle.

Some of the super beetle guys may know of a way to mount 944/928 spindles directly on a super beetle strut suspension, but that would probably still require the use of 944/928 hubs, rotors, calipers...etc.

I'm still stumped why you want Porsche spindles if you are running 13" wheels... and a 4x130 pattern, the 944 brakes are out.

924s/944/supers are also McPherson strut front suspension, and the 924/944 spindles are part of the strut, so I am confuses...

Is it just a matter of trying to drop your car w/o drop spindles?

Cut-n-turn, shorter shocks. Folks have been doing it for ~50 years now.
Optimal? No, but if you want 13" wheels, that's the way it is.

The 924/944 struts/brakes etc (more or less) bolt on the 1303 supers, and can on the 1302s with some 1303 parts. Has been done many times.
16" wheels required IIRC to clear the brakes.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
